manali -> srinagar?

Greetings everyone,
Does anyone know of a fairly direct way to travel from Manali to Srinagar? A friend and I will be in Manali in early november and wanted to see Srinagar as well, but I can't seem to find a good way of getting there (aside from expensive flights from Kulu->Delhi->Srinagar).
Are there any direct buses or other means of transport running to Srinagar from Manali (and not using the road to Leh, am I correct in thinking it'll be closed by then?), and if you know of any do you also happen to know an approximate price?

Guess the best way to reach Srinagar would be a bus to Pathankot and from there on another bus to Srinagar.
