honeymoon trip in feb2010

hi friends,
im planning a h/m trip to himachal pradesh in feb 2010 can somebody suggest me the climate there around mid feb,will there be any need of central heating i mean will the weather be very chilly as some sites that temp. there may drop to -4 degree celcius. also will it be safe go to rohtang pass/naggar/kufri[some people say there is a lot of black ice on the way to kufri]

also im planning a 8-10 day trip and the places i wish to cover are shimla,kufri,manali,naggar,roh tand,solan.
i wish to start the trip from manali where i will reach by air from delhi and then proceed downwards,i also wish to do the toy train on the way down to solan if possible....
i would be really thankful if u guys could suggest me an itienary.

Rohtang will be closed at that time...

You'll need heating in the room.

Route: Manali - Shimla - Solan - Kalka - Delhi - Kanpur

thanx deliwala i suppose there are two ways to reach manali, by road and by air.Now i have read in some posts here that the flights to manali gets cancelled frquently in winters due to fog etc. would u suggest travelling to manali by air from delhi,i checked at makemytrip.com and there are flights of mdlr,kingfisher and air india. i have completely ruled out mdlr as most complaints are about it only. would u suggest going there by air thru kingfisher/air india??.
if travelling by road i will have to go thru chandigarh and in that way i will have to travel the road between shimla and manali which might get a bit boring thats why i am hoping to reach manali by air n then descend from there to shimla by road,what would u suggest??

Bhuntar is a little difficult airport as it has a single runway. One way in and fly out the opposite direction. It doesn't get too many flights hence due to bad weather flights get cancelled.

And you are right, Manali is a long road trip.....

Take your pick.....

thanx deliwala i guess ill take my chances with kingfisher airlines. i guess mother nature will b on my side.
do u know what would be the road conditions there? are there chances of road blocks due to snow and if they do happen then how much timedoes it take to clear them up.. n du have any idea that what would be the chances of snowfall in mid feb??

Great job friends. You all are doing an excellent work which is very helpful to make any itinerary.

I am in the process of workout the itinerary for my second honeymoon in Fagu-Shimla-Manali from 03 Feb to 12 Feb 2010. I have made very preliminary itinerary which is as follow:

3rd Feb : Kalka to Shimla through toy train Himalyan Queen. Pick up cab to reach Fagu.

4th Feb :Hire a cab to travel Narkanda - Kufri – Chail & Chini Bunglow and surround good places (pl. advice)

5th Feb : Move around fagu and later transfer to Shimla. Evening at the mall road.

6th Feb : Pick up HPTDC sightseening tour to Nalhedra & Tattapani.

7th Feb : Day for rest and move around shimla.

8th Feb : Catch bus to manali.

9th Feb. Pick up HPTDC sightseening tour to Manali - Naggar - Solang & back.

10th Feb: Day for rest and move around manali local.

11th Feb: HPTDC sightseening tour to Manali - Kullu - Manikaran & back.

12th Feb: Day for rest and shopping in manali and catch Volvo to New Delhi at evening.

I have some questions which are as below:

1. I know first week of Feb is chilly and temp will be near to zero. In this kind of weather will I able to access the various places like Fagu, Narkanda, Kufri, Chail, Nalhedra, Tattapani etc in Shimla and nagger, solang kullu manikaran etc near manali

2. Can you suggest me the some other places which I should visit?

3. The hotels which I have shot listed are for Fagu : Hotel Peach Blossom, for Shimla : Hotel Honeymoon Inn and for Manali Snow Valley Resorts.

Should I go with pre booking of the hotels or not?
My budget for hotels is around 1300 to 1500 per day.

Please suggest me to make better itinerary and please share some other options on itinerary and hotels.

can anybody suggest me about span resorts manali and whether it would be advisable to stay there in feb.
does anybody have any idea of tariff there and should i go for ep or map there??

planning your trip to manali is a good idea.but going via air is bad coz 1st its not confirmed due to weather dn 2nd u will miss everything in between...
let's start from kanpur .....
1. make a reservation from kanpur to new delhi in the early morning from indian railway like gomti express or rajhdhani exp.. normally all the 5 or 6 rajdhani go b/w 5 to 7 in the morning.

you will arrive delhi at approx 11 A.M from ,rajhdhani & 2 p.m by gomti.
then you have two choices after reaching delhi either by private volvo or H.R.T.C buses(deluxe or volvo). you will get H.R.T.C buses from I.S.B.T kashmiri gate. and private buses usually depart 5 p.m around. the journey will take approx 14hrs to reach ..

other option is going up to chandigarh via train (unchahar exp may suit u best) and further by hire taxi that will cost around 8rs/km. or by bus approx 10hrs journey
rather going to shimla you can visit dharamshala and mclodganj in kangra and after that reach to pathankot and take muri express from ther upto kanpur..

do u think dharmshala and mclodganj will be better than shimla as i was thinking shimla+kufri+naldhera would be a good choice,is there anything in dharamshala desides the monastry??
coz i dont think there would be much to do in dharamshala,also i would be very glad if someone here could give me contact nos of some reliable agency from where i could hire a cab for the entire trip.

span resorts is the best one in the region. but only drawback is that its location it is 18 k.m before manali on NH-21. but if u want to be away from hustle and bustle then it is the best place.and its one of the costliest resort here. so better check out your budget.

ya actually i really liked the location of the resort which is right on the river bank,i checked the websites n they said around 4500:00 do u think i can get a better deall if i contact them directly??

shimla-->kufri nd all that is gud but not in feb and all ur trip will be speedy. u won,t be able to see nd enjoy nature coz u will spend more time in travel ..
