Honeymoon Trip in Dec 2009

Hi folks,

I am amazed at the dedication that u guys are putting in !!!
Congratulations and keep up the good work !!!!

I am planning my honeymoon in Dec 2009 for about 7 days split across Shimla, Kullu and Manali.

The itinerary I have in mind is as follows.

dec 16th night start to kalka from delhi by train.
dec 17th kalka-shimla toy train. overnight at shimla
dec 18th shimla. Overnight at hotel
dec 19th - shimla - manali - checkin and halt at hotel
dec 20th - manali. Overnight at hotel.
dec 21st - manali. Overnight at hotel
dec 22nd - manali. Return to Delhi either in day or overnight.

Do you guys think this might be a hectic trip? I am planning to spend 3N/3-4D in Manali/Kullu and 2N/2-3D in Shimla. Is this a wise decision ? I am flexible with the places but I do not want to miss the toy train ride. Hence choosing Shimla along with Kullu/Manali.

Also I am traveling in Mid Dec what precautions should I take (in terms of weather/clothing)? I am from the south and am traveling to this part of the world for the first time.

What about Hotels in both places and touring in the day ? I hope somebody can suggest some reliable hotels and reliable cab agency/drivers.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance

Kalips

Dear, I think you should drop Shimla. You have a good toy train in Tamilnadu for Ooty, so you can do that any other time. Shimla has lost it's charm, spend all time at Manali and nearby areas....

On your honeymoon, don't spend too much time in travelling...

What's your budget for Hotel....

Dear friends,

I agree with above writer -do not spend time on travelling. Snowy mountains are never enough, either for viewing or for playing. Hope you get intoxicated with them and keep going back to the himalayas. That's what it did to me.

all the best

Hi folks,
Thanks for the responses. Sorry for the delay in posting.

My itinerary is now almost finalized and want some comments from experts.

Dec 14th - DLI-KLK
Dec 15th - KLK-SML halt
Dec 16th - SML
Dec 17th - SML - MANALI
Dec 18th, 19th, 20th - MANALI
Dec 21st - MANALI - DEL

I have booked Peterhof hotel in SML for the 2 nights and also MANALI-DEL volvo for 21st through HPTDC agent.
I am yet to book a hotel in Manali and am really confused with the options. I am staying for 4 mights in Manali.
I have enough budget to spend around 2500 per day for Manali and since it is a honeymoon trip I would want some privacy and a little away from crowd. Please suggest some good places to stay at Manali. HPTDC agent was suggesting Hadimba Cottage. Want to know from anyone who recently visited this cottage. Is it good ?
I cannot really decide bcoz I have not seen the place.
Other places have some kind of packages for 3N/4D with some xtras such as beverages. I checked hotel Orchard Green and Apple County but they might be a little expensive or want to know if they really give whatever they advertise. I am ready to pay for it if it is really worth. Please help me out in selecting a good place to stay.

Hadimba Cottages are good ! Little away from Mall Road (means crowds) and there is a good Italian Restaurant nearby.

Honeymoon Inn is also a good place.

Thanks Delhiwala. The cottages are priced at 2750 per day(incl. tax) (total = 11000) as per HPTDC agent. I got a quote from Honeymoon Inn which is described below. But HPTDC agent tells that Honeymoon inn better avoid.

Honeymoon Special package @ Rs.17270/- for 4nights per couple.
4 Nights stay for a couple in Honeymoon Special Room.
Garlanding & Tika on arrival
Welcome NON ALCOHOLIC drink on arrival
Daily Bed Tea, Breakfast & Dinner (including one Candle Light Dinner)
Honeymoon Special Cake once during the Stay
Daily Fruit Basket & Cookies in the room
2 Glasses of almond & saffron milk every night
Un-limited Tea /Coffee on demand
Free use of indoor recreation facilities
10% Discount on Laundry / Additional Food Bills/ Hotel Shop / Billiards & Pool
Free entry to rollers scatting & Table tennis (Manali)
2 Bottles of Mineral Water every day
4th night complimentary stay on room only basis (only in off-Season Subject to Room Availability)
Souvenir at the time of Departure
All Taxes
Also includes following Sight Seeing-
MANALI
packed lunch
1 Local Sightseeing trip to Hadimba temple & Vashisht Temple by exclusive Car/ Van
1 Soft trek tour with escort and packed lunch.
1 Full day sightseeing trip to Rohtang Pass & Solang Valley by exclusive car / van with packed lunch

I have anyway booked a taxi from Simla to Manali which I am planning to use for Manali sightseeing as well. So I am inclined to go for Hadimba cottage. Only concern was food. How much do you expect it would cost for food per day ? I am only worried about the cleanliness in the cottage which I heard from some other forums are not greatly maintained. What are your views ?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hidimba cottage will have around 20% discount during your visit. 2500+10% tax is the maximum rate before discount. I think they do have a honeymoon package also which is much cheaper.

Honeymoon Inn package has a lot of fancy stuff. Hidimba might not be great, but I think its good.
