Hidimba cottage is around 1.5 Kms from Mall Road. Good place to stay. You can find a several restaurant in Mall road offering south indian food.

In manali you can visit Hidimba Temple, Manu Maharaj, Monastry, Nature Park, Vashistha Hotwater spring etc. Excurssion includes Nagar, Manikaran, Solang, and if lucky Rohtang too.

Stay in Manali. No need to go to Shimla or Dharamsala as you will not get enough time there. You can find snow at Rohtang and it would be open (depending on weather conditions) during your visit.

In delhi I stayed at Ginger - almost on the new delhi metro station ( tucked inside a bit)...its a steal at 1200 bucks for the room.. although the guys at the front office are really disorganized...
In Manali I stayed at the shingar regency,, paid 1500 in beg of sept... it was very comfortable,,, great views,, and service was pretty decent. Hotel is a short walk from the mall road which suits me pretty well.
I was in manali for 4 days - one day went to naggar, one day manikaran and 1 day attempted to go to rohtang... but it kind-of gets boring in manali,, old-manali was the saviour... there are some nice cafes where you can sit around for hours playing scrabble or sthg and have a drink...
I got very good rates on the taxi - 1200 to manikaran in an innova.. I can give you the number of mahendar who was our driver in case you need it..

I thought mcleodganj was a nicer place than manali... but ofcourse manali is the gateway to leh etc...

Question help

Delhi to manali looks like a very long bus journey to me so I have decided to go to chandigarh first,, my train will reach chandigarh at 11am on 5th oct will there be buses available in the afternoon as we do not want to stay overnight in chandigarh... and we want to reach manali as early as possible..

Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciable.

i think splitting delhi , manali into delgi-chd-manali is a bad idea.

first of all, chandigarh is not on enroute to manali from delhi. So from chandigarh, manali is another 11-12 hours. And after 11 am I dont think you will get a bus to manali from chandigarh

Sonal

HRTC bus is the last volvo to Manali. There might be some private volvos but I am not sure. Also will not recomend private operators.

Oorvashe

26/10 Visit Taj first early in the morning then go for Fatehpur Sikri which is an hours journey from Agra.
28/10 Visit Manikaran and Kullu.
30/10 Visit Nagar

No need to go for Shimla. You do not have time for that.
