Delhi to Manali

Dear IMers
I am planning for a trip to Manali from Chennai between Sep 21st to 29th . Our family comprises of me, my wife and our infant son. We will fly to delhi on 19th and from there we are planning to go to manali. My constraints lie with my son who is 1 and half years old and needs constant feeding and attention. So Going by the Volvo bus becomes difficult. Is there any other comfortable alternative where in I can Reach Manali faster by Road?

Thanks.
Srinivasan

Well you can either hire a taxi from Delhi or better yet, take the flight to Kullu (Bhunter airport) and from there, travel to Manali.

We flew from Delhi to Bhuntar a few weeks ago with our 9 month old baby. I wouldn't do the journey by bus. On the way back we went to Shimla from Kasol by taxi, stayed in Shimla for a few days then took the Shimla-Kalka-Delhi train route.

Hi! Well it looks like you are from India? Then I guess you would do the same as at home - ie be extra careful regarding what your baby eats and water sources.

We always carry a flask of boiled hot water to make up bottles on the go (interesting when driving with a crazy taxi driver in Himachal around mountain bends!)

We've been travling for a month now and our daughter (touch wood) has just been loving it, no problems. The key is just to be very organized!

There is a poster on here called Hans who has written an article on traveling with kids - do a search as his kids were also a little older (our baby was 9 months when we started our trip).

No one knows your baby better than you, so just keep a close eye on him or her for signs of any discomfort and I would also suggest to keep the pace of your travels not too rushed.

Good Luck!

I agree. Unless you split the trip into 2 days. The longse stretch we did with our baby was Kasol to Shimla which was around 7 hours. Anymore would have been pushing it.

Thanks a lot for all your replies.. My itinerary goes like this (i have planned this). If you can suggest a good alternative, please do so.My dates are from 19th Sep to 27thh Sep
1) 19th Morning - From Chennai to Delhi by Air take 5-6 hours off
2) 19th Evening - Delhi to Kalka by Shatabdi (reaches KLK at 21:30. Stay in the station Dormitory that night)
3) 20th morning - Catch the toy train to Shimla.
4) 20th rest of the day and night spend in Shimla
5) 21st Morning - start frm Shimla by road to Manali.
I have to reach Manali by 21st as i have booked my office guest house from 21st-24th. Considering my son, i have planned my travel to be by AIr and train except for the shimla to manali stretch. Is this OK? or You guys suggest something else? I need to check my budget too :-)
Pls help as this is my first long trip with my baby

Thanks a lot!!!!
