Delhi to Manali in September

Hi,

We(me and my friend only. Our age is around 26) are going to travel Simla, Kulu and Manali this month end. Here is our travel plan.

1. 26th Sep,'09 - a) Reach Delhi @ 5:30 PM b) Will try to catch bus from Delhi to Manali same day.

2. 27th Sep,'09 - a) Reach Manali + Local Sight Seeing

3. 28th Sep,'09 - a) Rotang Pass

4. 29th Sep,'09 - a) Manikaran

5. 30th Sep,'09 - a) Leave Manali at morning and will take rest at Simla

6. 1st Oct,'09 - a) Simla Local Sight Seeing

7. 2nd Oct,'09 - a) Kufri Fagu (half day tour) B) Will catch night bus to reach delhi next day.

8. 3rd Oct,'09 - a) Reach Delhi b) Sight Seeing @ delhi

9. 4th Oct,'09 - Will board train @ 7:25 AM

Now I have few questions. I know this is the best place to get best suggestions.

Questions:
i) Will we get any Delhi to Manali bus around 7 PM from delhi (you never trust scheduled arrival of Indian rail). Or what is the time of last bus leaving from Delhi to Manali.

ii) For sight seeing at Manali and Simla, which tour operator is best. Can we get spot booking of these conducted tours.

iii) Could you please let us know whether we will get accomodation at Hotels after reacing Manali or Simla? Or is it better to book hotels from Calcutta?

Thanks in advance,
Arnab

1) There are 2 Volvo Buses from HPTDC that leaves Delhi at 6.30 and 7 PM respectively. There is also a Deluxe bus that leaves at 7 PM. HRTC Volvo to Manali leaves at 8 PM. HRTC also operates Tata AC bus that also leaves around same time. Better to prebook as its holiday season. HRTC offers online booking.

2) HPTDC operates local site seeing tours in Manali and Shimla. Alternatively you can book a taxi for siteseeing. You do not need any for Manali local. Cover Nagar also while going to Manikaran.

3) Its better to prebook as its holiday time and lots of tourists would be visiting these places.

Also note that there are night buses also from Manali to Shimla which will save you a day.

Smile

Hi Sriprakash,

Thanks a lot for your reply. It will definitely help us. Especially your suggestion regarding night journey to Shimla is awesome.

Could you please suggest how we can utilize 30th Morning at Manali if we catch night bus on same day. We can also take night bus for Shimla on 29th, if there are any places around Shimla we can visit on 30th.

Thanks in advance.
Arnab

You can watch famous Kullu Dussehra and other places in Kullu (Bijli Mahadev, Bhubaneswari Devi etc.). Kullu Dussehra starts on Vijaya Dasami Day and celebrated for a week.

Alternatively you can catch the bus to Shimla on 29th night itself and visit Narkanda, Hatu peak & Thanedhar.

Hi arnabacharjee,

I had a trip from 18 - 28 sep in simla -manali. We did a mistake by booking hotels and sight seeing trips in advance. There are lot of options available for spot booking. I suggest u to not book any taxis(private cars) from simla to manali (sight seeing) i.e 3-4 days with one operator. The operators almost charge you twice the actual cost. We have suffered a loss. The manali sight seeing and simla sight seeing is quite cheaper than what the local tourist operators offer you.
