| Hi! The route is basically passable with any car,the Kinnaur section being in general better than the Spiti an Lahaul parts. There is a bypass now avoiding the old road through the Malling nallah, but frankly speaking it's not so much better than the previous route, and it is much longer. Rocks sometime fall over the road for a while and everybody has to wait, and in case of rain it gets blocked.Rothang is still closed for heavy vehicles(but few days back an HRTC bus from Keylong went over it to Manali)it might already be possible to pass in a car. Kunzum La has already been reached by few jeeps and it's supposed to open officially in 3-4 days, but not the stretch between Batal and Gramphoo, that will take few more days. Most probably you will be able to reach Chandratal by car at that time, right now you can walk from Kunzum La. | |

| Hi! Well, because I don't travel in my vehicle I never found myself in that situation. Not sure about Tabo but in Kaza there are a couple of mechanics and a spare parts shop, all of them very close to the bus stand. Until Losar you have chances to get a lift to one place or the other. Between Losar and Gramphoo at that time of the year there is not really much traffic I'm afraid,so carry some water and food with you in case of emergency. | |

I don't know your budget but I can suggest these accomodations in which I've been last august/sept.: Sangla: Hotel Prakash, just outside the village direction Rakcham/Chitkul (http://fbxx.altervista.org/tibet/sangla/p8140098.html) Kalpa: Kalpa Regency, very fine (http://fbxx.altervista.org/tibet/Kalpa/p8150191.html) Tabo: Millenium Guest House, upstair they have good/fair rooms (http://fbxx.altervista.org/tibet/tabo/p8170344.html) Kaza: Shilla Peak Guest House (more expensive) or Lara Guest House (cheaper but good) Manali: Tourist Nest, Old Manali (http://fbxx.altervista.org/tibet/Manali/p9020039.html) You can watch some pictures on my web site (http://fbxx.altervista.org/) concerning the tour in Kinnaur and Spiti (direct link at http://fbxx.altervista.org/tibet/index.html) but it's only in italian language ![]() | ||

| I suggest to take a look in the Hotels forum and do a search for threads on Sangla and Manali - plenty of hotel info around. Thereafter if you have more Qs feel free to ask. Carry some basic spares with you! Also a spare tube or two, a foot pump, some engine oil. | |

| That's becos I haven't been. ![]() In the Pin Valley you can basically go upto Mudh. Here's a coupla threads with some info: Advise Please! Bhaba Pass/ Tarik La Kinnaur is this itinerary good? There are plenty more, just do a search for posts by AvidTrekker, jyotipg and arjunm to name a few - they've trekked in the area. Same for Chandra Tal, here's a few threads that will help you, but do search for more: Kunzum-La open in Late May? http://www.indiamike.com/india/himac...le-now-t53875/ Anyone visiting Spiti soon? Will Chandratal be freezing in late May? The link road to the lake starts between Kunzum and Batal. Just a dirt track actually, take a look at the pics - I'm not sure it's a good idea to go there in a small car. Altho the road 'officially' goes to 50 m before the lake, Balvar reports that the last 1.5 km were unmotorable. A decent foot pump shud cost around 300 bucks. Last edited by Dilliwala; May 19th, 2008 at 03:58.. Reason: foot pump | |

| Hi! For 500 Rs and room service the best bets in Kaza are Mandala Hotel opposite the bus stand and Snow Lion Hotel in the upper part of the village. In Tabo Trojan guest House. In Losar forget about comforts and room service, also there is really no need to stop there. In Manali I stay in Hotel Tourist, but for 1000 Rs you can go to a better place I guess. In Pin Valley you can drive even some kms after Mud,passing through Guling,Mikim and Sagnam;don't miss the old gompa in Kungri. The best place in Mud is Tara guest house,in Kungri there is only the basic guest house of the monastery. Chandratal is after Kunzum La,3-4 hours by car from Kaza. Any car can get near Chandratal if the road is OK.You start from Kaza in the direction of Manali, after Losar you climb to Kunzum La,and going down at the 17th hairpin bend there is the link road to the lake, signalled by a board pit there by the forest dept. | |
