where to find flu shot in Kolkata?
Not H1N1 (yet), but regular flu. I know it is available in India, but none of the small medicine shops in Kolkata seems to know.
Even if you don't know either, can you give me some names of major druggists, such as those on Lindsay St? I don't remember their names, but given the names I can try to look up their phone numbers. I am trying to arrange this from abroad to help out a senior who needs to not get sick any more than necessary. Many thanks, |

While waiting for some Kolkattans to answer, a Google search immediately throws up quite a few chemists and their addresses/phone numbers in the area of Lindsay Street:

Yes, thank you!
As you probably know, there are about 300,000,000 druggists in Kolkata. I was not looking so much for "a" druggist on Lindsay St., but for "the" druggist on Lindsay St. Fortunately your list jogged my memory. |

Just for the record, Blue Print had no clue, but Dey's Medical has the stuff and knew all about it.
It isn't commonly used in India, in part because it's expensive for Indians (Dey's said Rs 425/shot), but it's a good thing to get. There's an awful lot of infection in India, partly because of unhygenic practices. The flu vaccine doesn't prevent other respiratory illnesses, but it reduces the chance of getting flu. I used to catch something respiratory at some point during every winter visit, but now I don't. |

at lest when I had the vaccine for flu it didn't prevent me to catch flu, anyway even if you take the vaccine, don't underestimate the good prevention practices like wasing hands often, avoiding closed crowded places if possible and eating a lot of vegetables and fruits. The vaccine can help you against some kinds of flu, but not all, so I don't think there should be the idea that once you get the vaccine you are done.

yes they are readily available but supervised!.....usually a doc arranges and plans for the shots as there are some contraindications and sometimes side effects which needs to be tackled....
