What should I do for my birthday?

OK folks

I'm flying to Calcutta on the 13th of April. I'll reach in the early morning on the 14th.

On the 15th, it's my birthday. I'll be in a totally new city with no knowledge of anything, and all by myself.

Who's got some very nice suggestions for me - what should I do for my birthday in Calcutta? I feel like such a loser asking this, by the way.

You may get in touch with Kolkata members like Somnath, Tintin.... plan a meet up and have a bash.
Alternately pick up some goodies from Flury's on Park Street, hire a boat from Babughat and sail on the Ganga, watching Kolkata and moving further up to visit old colonial towns on the banks.

Thank you for the suggestions guys!

Somnath, are you a Calcutta native? If so, and if you're free, I'd love to chat with you when I arrive in Calcutta. I am originally from Maharashtra and I've never even been near Calcutta before.

Anyway, if you're up to it, everything will be on me, OK?

Thumbs up

Basically I am not native of any particular city / town . My father was (now retired) in West Bengal Govt. service and his frequent transfer (change in posting) didn’t allow us to think about native place or something.
But yes, I was born in Kolkata (and left) and now staying near Kolkata city.

In India, most people go to a temple on their birthday to pray for a great year ahead and to thank for all the good things that have happened in the past.

may be, you must go to a religious place of your choice, a church or a temple and pray for a while.

- take jyotirmoy's cruise. real good idea.

-Go to Trincas for a drink and live music. Scratch that if there is no music nowadays, or if you don't drink

-Eat somewhere on Park Street after Trincas.. many excellent options depending on what food you like.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I don't pray, I don't drink, but FOOD is definitely a passion.

The cruise sounds like a great idea, I'm going to be looking into that.

This sounds like a mighty good idea on your birthday!

Look at the bright side, you'll be in the papers and famous.

I'm so disappointed in you!

See, you're so living upto stereotypes of your country.

Give it a shot. I'll make it easy on you. No rubber ball.

Deal?
