One of the better places and not much discussed is the Deul Park, near Shantiniketan. If one visits Shantiniketan, then Deul is something not to be missed. The resort is located in a forest and close to the banks of River Ajoy. Closely lies the Ichai Ghosh temple on the banks of the river. Beautiful place that is.

5 days on the beach near Kolkata?

Namaste everybody,

I'm planning 5 days on a beach near Kolkata next august. I need your help!
I am searching for a quiet beach and a nice resort/hotel/hut on the beach, where I can relax in the shadow of trees and palms or having bath in the ocean.

I studied in these days and I found 2 options:
1. BAKKHALI (or other places near it)
2. MANDARMONI (or other places near it)

Here there are my doubts:
1. during moonsoon period can I reach Bakkhali area? Are there resorts/hotels on beaches with trees like the ones I'm searching for?
2. I already read the posts on Mandarmoni hotels here and many opinions on internet on the resorts. Unfortunately I saw that almost all the hotels are under the sun! these are no trees, so I'm afraid of beeing closed in my room when it's too hot. besides, every hotel has got it's own restaurant, so it's just a long long beach full of hotels and with no shadow, not very realxing for me!
3. I found Sana Beach resort and Tajpur nature camp which look like the kind of places I'm looking for, but their reviews on internet are not so good sometimes, and especially for the first one I'm afraid because it's really expensive!!

Thank you so much for your kind help!!
There is no happiness for him who does not travel........Therefore, wander!

Thumbs up

Hello claudiaitaly,

1. during moonsoon period can I reach Bakkhali area? Are there resorts/hotels on beaches with trees like the ones I'm searching for?

>>> Somnath: yes you can reach – it is accessible. And the hotels/lodges are not really like to sit under the trees….. and sipping beer / coconut water type

>>> Somnath: you are absolutely right !!! I just hate Mandarmani (OK, its my personal opinion).

3. I found Sana Beach resort and Tajpur nature camp which look like the kind of places I'm looking for, but their reviews on internet are not so good sometimes, and especially for the first one I'm afraid because it's really expensive!!

>>> Somnath: Sana Beach Resort is in Mandarmani and it is expensive. In fact Mandarmani itself is an expensive place.
I have a very good experience in Tajpur Nature Camp. Tajpur is not far away from Mandarmani but significantly better place. I love Tajpur since its early days.

Claudiaitaly, you’ve 5 days in your hand – right? I would suggest you to select two destinations :
1. 2 nights in Tajpur
2. 2 nights in Talsari.
Well, Talsari is a few KM from Tajpur and located in Orissa. There is a OTDC accommodation and Talsari is a calm and quiet (visitors come from Digha but for a few hours only) place.
You could check these websites:

Accomodation

I plan to be in Kolkata during durga puja. Can anybody suggest a decent and cheap accomodation for two persons for about 7 to 10 days?

Call Hotel Sunshine, Georgian Inn, Shaw Guest House or Capital Guest House. They all are in prime locations (Park Street) and budget hotels (within 1000). Now rests depend on your burgain skills.
