Dear All, I plan to take a car and drive to Shantiniketan in October. I would really appreciate if I can get some hotel recommendation.

Santiniketan has quite a few good hotels and resorts. Chuti and Camelia are the bigger ones. West Bengal Tourism also has a tourist lodge.
Since you will be having a car, you can think of spending one night at Sobuj Bon - a property near to Bolpur. Lush greenery within the huge property is really great.

Town, as I am planning to shift from
Hustle bustle of Kolkata to much quiter
"Renaissance" in Burdwan during sometime
next year, which I am planning to make my
retirement home.

How is Bardhaman town Infrastructure wise , I mean
dou you have broadband Internet facility, Car rental,
etc. Infact while we were driving on Durgapur expressway
I cam accross this "Renaissance", my self amd mywife went
inside the complex and we liked the Idea and bunglows,
specially the greenery , I really smelt English country
side there , then I did some research and came to the
conclusion that this is best place in Bengal to settle in,
Not far from Kolkata, Good connectivity , good Doctors
Including propsed health city ), Right on Highway etc etc.

I may be driving again to Bardhaman during second week of
September to see progress there , can I call you to have
a informal chat , if you have no reservations you can PM
your contact number in Bardhaman I will pass mine. Presently
I am abroad will be India during 1st/2nd of Sept.

Capt.
Bardhaman is the most happening town in South Bengal. You are right about the connectivity of Bardhaman. It has a very good connectivity (both road & rail with every part of the country). The close proximity to Kolkata (Esplanade 1.5hrs, 1.5hrs to airport by SBSTC bus) has really worked out well for Bardhaman.

Greenery is still there but have reduced quite a bit inside the main town during the last 30years but the area u mentioned is lush green.

Broadband & wireless internet are available in Bardhaman. Car rentals are in abandance (although very much unorganised sector), & the rates are the lowest I have seen.

Doctors are also in abandance. In fact the `Doctor Para'(Khoshbagan) of Bardhaman happen to figure in Guiness as the desensely populated Doctor/sq. km (I hvn't cross checked but hv heard the same from quite a few).

I hv PM-ed u my cell number. Pls note, I'll not be available from 5th Sep-16th Sep as I'll be away for my next trek. You can can call me anytime between 9am-11pm. I'll be out of Bardhaman when you'll be visiting.
