4-5 hours should be ok.
Enter by the cable car. Just find the show timings of the various shows when you come and plan accordingly. Must see shows: Space Theater (currently showing the documentary 'Living Sea', 3D Show, Time Machine. Do not miss the Room of Mirrors. More details at http://www.sciencecitykolkata.org.in/

I have already seen kolkata with my kids in May this year (covering victoria, hwh bridge, vidyasgar, botanical, rail mueseam, childran mueseam, alipore zoo, indian mueseam, planetarium).
basically there is lot of things for kids to see in kolkata. only science city remains, this i definately want my kids to visit. |

Hmmmn.......it is for your kids otherwise I would have suggested you some other things to see & do in Kolkata.Science City is basically for kids otherwise it is unable to attract the adults.I recenly went to SC after 12-14 years to relive the excitement of past but unfortunately it looked to dull/unexciting to me.
You can also try out BITM(Birla Industrial & Technical Museum), it holds good exhibits, interactives regarding school level physics, environmental conservation, mechanics etc. |

Obviously you have grown up in all these years, so not able to feel the same excitement.
As I said, I have 2 kids, 13 and 6 yrs old, its only for them, i think they shall love and enjoy science city. as regards Birla industrial mueseam in Gurusaday road, even i had been there as a 14 yrd old,but i don't know how it is now. thanks for the information. |

Adults would be able to enjoy Science City too, if it were not
for its pitifully dilapidated condition, with most of the exhibits broken down/not working, and apparently nobody to take care of anything! How Indians value their national treasures! -- Not to mention the sweet-smelling drain flowing outside! |
