Talking River Cruises from Kolkata

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has done a river cruise either for a day or longer and which company was used.
I have seen a website called Vivada, are they any good?
Does anyone have a recommendation?

Ideally I would like to try out a day cruise and later on go on a 5 day journey.

Any suggestions?

Also, where do these cruises start from, which jetty?

Many thanks.

This is such a great idea! I decided to see what was offered by googling and didn't come up with much!

Here is what I found. There are some super expensive river cruises which go from Kolkata to places like Varanasi which seem to be run from companies in the West (USA, UK). Thousands of dollars per person.

There are several articles in Kolkata newspapers about how they are going to gear up for doing river cruises in 2008 to begin in 2009 but nothing about anything actually happening. And their primary goal seems to be going for the luxury travel market.

I hope someone can discover a way to do this.

We may have to be content with a ferry ride

Vivida 1-day trip is good. I do not know how their longer trips (Murshidabad - Sunderbans) are. Their vessels are well maintained and you can try them out.

Hi Kausiks, have you been on the day cruise with Vivada?
If so, how much did it cost you and where did you board the boat from?

Thanks.

Yes, I did a half day cruise with them. The arrangements were good and it was a pleasant day-out.
