FYI, I went to the airport from Sudder St on May 13 exactly this way. Walked to Park St metro station (hardly 10 minutes from hotel), then a 20 minute train ride (10 odd rupees fare) to Dum Dum station, and finally a (no-haggle fare!) taxi for 130 rupees to the airport. The taxi ride took about 20 minutes as well.

Weather in Calcutta in May: same as Mumbai - very hot (30 degrees +) with high humidity. But I love it that way! (For one, my sinus congestion imported from the US cleared up in no time...) Just need a bottle of water at hand and you are good to go for hours.
