I have just been studying the webside of the Ramakrishna Mission and find it pretty time consuming! Maybe this is a better way to find a fast answer: I want to come with my partner to Kalkuta and would love to stay in one of the Ramakrishna ashrams. Which one runs a guesthouse or accomodates both men and women? Replies most welcome!

Dear Duronto do you know anything about their rates? Guesthouse looks like a busy place- they have so many phone numbers. Thank you for the reply and I am checking myself if I can find the information on the webside.

There is an International Guest House attached to the RK Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark, Kolkata. Their contact address and phone number is given here under. You may like to contact them for booking of accommodation. I must say in this connection that the GH is in high demand amongst scholar, academicians etc. and remains always full. Bottom line is if you do not book well in advance, you will not get it.

International Guest House
The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture
Golpark
Kolkata - 700 029
Phone : 2464 1303 - 5 / 2466-1235 - 7

Guest House at Belur Math is a bigger one and may be busy but not noisy or untidy. I don't know of rates, but can get it for you, if required.

But Golpark will be better option inside Kolkata.

Belur Math seems to be more shanty than in the middle of the city. I suppose I could call and ask for rates if it is a big hassle for you to find out about rates. it is just to have some figure in mind affordable- not affordable.
I checked the Belurmath webside again but surely the guesthouse is not on it- not my mistake not to find it.
By the way the Belurmath guesthouse might be less popular with normal people and therefore it could be easier to find accomodation there?!

Not at all. You have to go through some shanty places though (Howrah Rail Station to Belurmath- now there are few direct local trains or by car from Kolkata), then Belur city area. But the math atmosphere is very nice, calm and peaceful, by the side of river Ganga, Dakshineswar temple is just on opposite, there are ferry.

It's fine.

I also think so, normally disciples .... as my parents, know of it and used to stay there and their guests.

Quetzal, please do a call, they are very helpful.

BelurMath has one Guest House. It runs on Donation given by the guests. They has no fixed charges.

You have to contact the Belurmath office, for your booking. I must tell you that their accommodation is very limited. So please do call them before your visit. The provide food( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) at No fixed cost( But as donation ).
They normally prefer their devotees & senior citizens in case of accommodation
I don't have their phone number.

I have never stayed at any Ashram before. I am thinking of staying inside Belur Math in their Guest House for a week. I am curious how life inside the Math would be.

What are their daily routines and what restrictions do they enforce on their guest? What sort of food is available inside? I would appreciate your suggestions/feedback.

Gabbar ---

There is very little worldly excitement. On the other hand, it is filled with spiritual richness. A place of peace and reflection, self-reflection. Take reading material with you. Most of the major religions of the world are represented. The place is a must for anybody studying religions of the world. It is like living in heaven. Belur Math is sitting on the banks of the river with a view of Kolkata across the river, so scenic and so beautiful.

Howrah, the area surrounding Belur Math, is mostly a giant slum. So, stay on the premises, do not wander out.

Next time I am in Kolkata, I plan to stay in Belur Math. Belur Math is the Taj Mahal of theology, I felt chills in my spine during my visit.

It is very difficult to get a room inside the Belurmath Mandir complex. The Guest house is outside the Mandir complex. You will have entry only during the visiting hour in the Morning & Evening.
There is no restriction in such only you have to maintain the Guest house time ing for food & entry time.
No addiction is allowed in the guest house.
But you can enjoy the temple and Ganges which flows outside the guest house.

If you are interested to stay please Check Belurmaths website and give them a call for your booking. Normally they do not allow a single person , but if he is senior citizen they normally consider provided he has to share a room.
