Park Hotel - Kolkata

Hi, I'm thinking of staying at the Park Hotel towards end of June and was wondering if anyone had stayed there and what they thought of it? As I'm going to be on my own I would welcome some company to pass the days if any ones in the area?

It's a 5 star.

Nice hotel.

If you after luxury, you may think of Oberoi or Taj Sonar Bangla...

topgun - Park Hotel is in an excellent location, but it's pretty old and tired both on the outside and on the inside.

Other than if one gets some kind of a deal, for the stated rack rate I find it overpriced. They used to get away w/ it because there weren't as many choices in the past, but now there are some really top notch hotels that have opened up there.

Taj Sonar Bangla, Hyatt Regency and others are 5 star, Park seems to be 3.5 stars or thereabouts. So unless it's based on location (Park Street) or awesome deal, I'd have a tough time recommending it. That said, it's not bad or anything, just ordinary for the price, in my opinion.

Cool Park St.

You can haunt the various Bars & Nightclubs in the Park. And if you're feeling a bit adventurous you can check out the various bars and restaurants on Park St.

Oly Pub is legendary in Cal. Once you walk in... you'll immediately either love it or hate it.

As for restaurants... Mocambo, Peter Cat & Barbeque are old-school Calcutta favourites and are excellent value for money.

On the ground floor just when you enter on your left. Actually it doesn't look like a pub from outside

Olypub is an old joint and is now famous for nostalgic reasons. During our college days and early careers, we used to hang out a lot there and used to like it.

But I went there about 2 yrs back (early/mid 2007 I guess) and found it pretty crappy. And to top it all, we had a few cockroaches and a mouse to give us company!

The mouse was much more shy compared to the roaches though, and he (or she) just ran over from behind our table.

Could any one post any more recent experience?

I was there last year in the afternoon just having a beer. The place itself seemed proper enough. There was a sound check while i was there wich were a bit annoying but i guess that could happen in any place
