That is great news for those of us who have to take flights in the wee hours to get from India to USA!

you are the "chief"!!!
thank you so much - thats so kind of you!
so then, when in kolkata, i'm going to call them for an airport pick-up at my hotel - probably best the day before and hopefully the operator speaks english and the taxi is going to show up on time!
thanks again!

Hello,
I have attempted to contact the Radio Cab in Kolkata with the numbers listed below without success. I am dialing from the US. Could anyone help me with the number prefixes necessary.
We dialed 011-(91)-332-44-222-333. Perhaps we don't have the correct area code.
We would like to secure airport transportation with our family (2 kids) arriving at 1:15 AM. We are traveling a short distance to Sinthi in North Kolkata.
Any information you may have is much appreciated!
Thank you!

Chief, this sounds too good to be true!
Rachelle, I have always wondered about pre-ordering a radio cab for airport pick-up: how do you determine the time you need for luggage and immigration? And how to foresee if the flight is punctual?
Oh, and I think you have the number wrong: in your post it says 44-222-333 and Chief gave 44-333-222. Please report any results!

Hi Baba,
Thanks for pointing the number out. We recorded both numbers provided but only tried one. We just tried again, both numbers still don't work
Good point about projecting wait time for immigration and luggage. I guess what we really need is to hire a car that will monitor flight and pick us up.
If anyone has a contact phone number or website we could use to secure a car in Kolkata for an early morning flight arrival...that would be so helpful!!
Thank you,
Rachelle

You have to dial +913344222222 or +913344333222. "91" is the country code, "33" the area code for Calcutta.
They also have an online booking facility [http://www.orixindia.com/radiotaxi_booking.aspx], but haven't used that so can't say how effective it is.
I had helped an IMer book the radio cab for pick-up from the airport.
From that experience learned that there's a BIG catch: These cabs do not have any parking facility at the airport, at least at the international terminal.
So the only way they can park is to pay INR 60 and use the general parking area.
But the rental company asks the drivers to drive around in loops at the international terminal with the guest's name plastered in the windshield
. So it's better to check this with the operator in the first place when you do the booking and instruct that the driver should park the car and stand in front of the arrival lounge with the placard, which is easier to spot.
Of course, that 60 bucks will be added to the bill.

These guys offer to do airport pick-up. I have arranged two trips with them, but can't speak from personal experience yet.
I will have the same problem as you with my flight arriving at 1.00 AM. When I contacted them about a pick-up and mentioned that I'd been to India several times, they assured me that a prepaid cab would be easy and more or less hassle-free in Kolkata. But with two kids I would probably rather have them send a car...

Thank you Baba and Stungan for your quick reponses and helpful information! My brother-in-law's solution is for us to wait until 5:00 AM after arriving at 1:15 AM (after traveling 22 hours with 2 kids).... that won't happen. I need to find another solution even if it means stirring the "in-law" pot!
I always take a pre-paid taxi and its convenient for me. Though at times the number of taxis are less and I need to wait for some time. Other than that no issues.
I have seen quite a few people arrange for airport pick-up through Travel House [https://www.travelhouseindia.com]. They have a good fleet of cars and service is good. So you can explore this option. All details are available at their web site.
