Maybe you can help me?

Hello all,

We are getting ready for a second trip to india!

In about a month we are going to land in kolkata in the morning (about 11-12 am). We would like to travel straight to darjeeling. Are there trains only in the evening? Should we book in advance? Is the airport far from the train stations? if there are a few hours between our landing and the train what do you suggest is best to do?

Many Many thanks

Tam

Check irctc.co.in for the trains as per your convenient timings.
Google map says sealdah station to airport is around 30 mins.

Have a pleasent stay.

Yes there is a Train in the Evening , "Darjeeling Mail "
leaves Sealdah station at every evening, It Leaves Station
at 2205 Hours.
if you arriveAirport at 11-12 A.M , it shouldn't be a problem to
catch this Particular Train, at the most it takes about
45 minutes from Airport to reach station during rush hours .

Cheers

I should point out that there is a general strike on in the West Bengal hills at present. Only emergency vehicles are allowed in or out, so you may want to check the situation before you go. Siliguri is okay, but I wouldn't want to spend a long time there, waiting for the roads to open again.
As of two days ago, all hotels and shops in darjeeling were closed, and the toy train, tourist things are therefore non-functioning.

Thanx mate. Not sure if the Bandh will still be on in a month, but someone here from Darj. the other day was saying it was indefinite until demands are met.

Before moving on to Darjeeling make sure that the Hills are on Strike or not. Currently Darjeeling is shut down for tourist in response to a call for an indefinite strike by the locals(politically unrest area).
May be everything will be all right by Aug-Sept but you need to make sure before start moving there.

There are many trains in the evening for New Jalpaiguri.

Kamrup ex - 17:35
Uttar Banga Ex - 19:35
Saraighat Ex - 16:00
Dareeling mail - 22:05
