looking for old prints.

Well the hunt is on. I am trying to track down a place (store or street) that sells old prints of the Hindu Gods. I've been collecting them from different parts of India and have discovered that many prints from 1900 come from Calcutta. I know there are streets that sell old LP;s I wonder if anyone knows where to find old art and vintage prints.

Thanks

SteamBuff – you are at right spot , Das Studio has a lovely collection but I believe those are for display only.

There is Silvio on Ingo's market in Goa, and, from next week in Mackie's market. He has a good collection of all kinds of old photos, prints, vintage bollywood, etc.

They do sell a lot of vintage print copies - You have to ask to see the 'Vintage' Catalogue. I go some of the Railway in its early days, I am sure they were pictures of 'Gods' there.

Once you have made your selection he prints them for you ... usually overnight. I was charged Rs125 each for A4 sized prints.

Thank you all!
I started to collect old religious prints (often hand colored) from people in Jaisalmer who had replaced the well worn, smoke and red tikka stained images with newer images.. the old images have so have so much character and the imagery is quite different(same gods, different time). They are not photographs, but printed on a press. I am interested in prints starting from turn of the century...1900 up to the 1960's

I go to Kolkatta ofen, but I'm interested in hearing about collections in other places as well. (I am in Orrisa now)

THANKS!

Ohhh…. That’s great !!!! it was really unknown to me. Once one of my friends asked them if the pic is for sale? They just said “No” .
Next time I’ll definitely try to get one special copy…. It is really very common. you’ll find it in most of the old hotels / clubs in Darjeeling. The pic of Kanchenjungha range from Chowrasta. Now this view is just an imagination. The sky is covered by buildings and all.

In Free School Street, now known as Mirza Ghalib Street, in between Park and Sudder Streets, there are many sellers of old LPs. You need to rummage through the collections. And ask. They have more which are not on display on the street.

And also at Wellington crossing on Lenin Sarani (near to Hind Cinema). There are a couple of shops that sell old LPs.
