Looking for new friends in Kolkata
Looking for new friends in Kolkata
I'm new here to this forum, but it was recommended by a close friend. I'm from the US, and am living in Kolkata (Lake Town) for the next two months. I'm in a language program (not the local language, alas) and I'm finding being in Lake Town a bit isolating. Today's floods didn't make things any easier.
I'm a woman, and am looking for ex-pats and local women who might want to meet up for tea or the occasional meal. Basically I am just very isolated and want to make sure that I have some regular human contact aside from my teacher. I need friends!
If people know where to socialize in Lake Town, that would be helpful, too. I am not able to get into the main city very much. I'm new to this part of Kolkata, and totally new to living in India, and my program has put me in a flat by myself, so any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Cross the foot bridge. Take a rickshaw. Go to City Centre. Or take a cab, auto to Nicco Park, Nicco Super Bowl.
One has to make the right choice. People in India are very conservative. If one is a guy from abroad/India and think of approaching a girl/lady/woman in a stylish way he could be in danger. Same applies for a lady but here the danger could be a bit more intensified. You can call up the various NGO's existing in Kolkata and help line numbers and ask for some suggestions. You can also hop around the Park Street area where you would find many foreigners moving around near the Peter Cat/Flurys Area.
Hope you have a nice time in Kolkata.
Regards.

Probably you need a group to join where you can chat, move around, eat out and so on which will help you to avoid the monotony of being lonely. Couldn't you make friends from your language class pals? Are they all Indian? where are you taking your language course? You can ask somebody from there for a tea or beer... Keep in touch... Let's see if something can be done
calcutta is big city with warm people.. hope you will find some good friends.. if you are interested with art and culture you can visit academy of fine arts...
Kubjika,
If you're still in Kolkata and want to meet up for a coffee or lunch of something sometime, my wife and I moved here about a week ago and are looking to meet people, too.
Best,
Sam (& Lois)

hey all
am new to this city too!! Been looking for friends and activity partners. Just shifted to Kolkata, thinking of having a pub pilgrimage and capturing the city with my DSLR...
And yes, I would be delighted to hear from you!
