Hi There, I'm going out to Calcutta in March this year and I will be working and living there for around 4 months. Has anyone got any suggestions of what to see and do, what's special in Calcutta and must be seen, etc? Any advice would be great as I'm cluless at the moment! Also hope to get up north to the mountains at some point and spend some time off in the Himalayas, any advice for this would be great too. Thanks, James ![]()

Hi there, Not 100% sure of location yet, I do know I will be about 50mins drive out of the city center though. I'm working in IT out there for around 4 to 6 months and should be able to explore at the weekends and hope to take a week or more off at the end of this time to get up north. Thanks, James

Hello James, Welcome to IM, India, Calcutta. The special thing in Calcutta is its people. According to your profile you have worked in different working environments, I’m sure you are going to experience something different in next 4 months. You will feel some personal attachment, some emotional bond, which is generally (not absolutely) missing in professional life, here in your workplace in Calcutta. Apart from this, the ‘Queen of Hills’ – Darjeeling and Sikkim are among the must see items. For weekend (specially, when a Friday / Monday becomes a holiday) trips Sundarban is there and …... Ohhh come on James, we are not going to tell you all the secrets right now! Come down to India, may be you will ask for a few months extension from your authority .- Somnath
