Learning Bengali in Kolkata

I have recently moved to Kolkata to work and although I'm trying to learn the Bengali language (spoken) from a phrasebook and a 'teach yourself' book I would really like a tutor. I need the discipline of homework and deadlines and things like that! The work that brings me here is as a volunteer coordinator and so I am looking also to find a tutor to provide Bengali classes to volunteers. Does anyone have any ideas of where to look to find tutors or who to contact? Help!

Thanks very much.

Hi.

That sounds like a great idea. I have found out though that the Ramakrishna Institute of Culture runs courses starting in January which I hope to sign up for but in the meantime it would be nice to pair up for practise. I'm new to the forum so do you send a message or something similiar to share email addresses?

U people who want to learn bengali....if u have time to give thn u can learn it from some recognized institution of kolkata...like Ramkrishna mission institute,Jadavpur Univercity etc. I think to learn any language the best and most benificial process is to listen and speak with people, fluent in that language. So just log on in yahoo messenger,go to the room of kolkata ,make frnds and speak speak speak... ....Infact I'm a bengali....u can ask me for help also....
