Kolkatta trip

Hi guys.
This is my first trip to Eastern side of India. I am heading toward Darjeeling and Sikkim.
My flight from Mumbai arrives at 12 noon and I have to catch the Darjeeling mail at 10 pm.

How do I plan the half a day that I have. What all places can I visit before I head to Sealdah station. We are 3 families with kids. Dont want to visit any historical places. Places which will keep the kids also Interested. Any good places to have lunch and dinner.

Also on my return I have the whole day i Kolkatta. I arrivie in the morn at 6 and my flight is at 10 in the night.
Kindly suggest how best i can plan my day.
Of course the wives want to do some saree shopping. what are the best places where they shd head to.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks.

Take a pre-paid cab from the airport for Sealdah station and stow your luggage in the cloak room.
From the station head for Victoria memorial, have a boat ride in the evening. Walk down Park street, plenty of nice places to have a drink & dinner.

The Correct Spelling of the city is " Kolkata"
not Kolkatta or Kolkutta .

Cheers

Thanks Jyotirmoy for your suggestions. Besides the VM and the boat ride, any other places of interest that can be done in a full day. I am keen to see the Howrah bridge.
Also thanks Cheif61 for the correction. It was not intentional.

Take a steamer to say Baghbazar from Babughat not far from Esplanade. You will have to change steamer in Howrah. The Howrah to Baghbazar strech will take you below the bridge.
Even if your plane arrives in time you it will be past 1:30 when you are thru with your luggage stowing at Sealdah station so you won't have too much time. You can walk to Babughat from Esplanade via Rajbhavan and other colonial buildings.
