Kolkatta Airport - Time to Kill
We are arriving into Kolkatta International Airport at 1.10am and have a train to catch at 6.45am at Sealdah Train Station (this has already been booked). Taking into consideration the time it takes to get through immigration and then also travel time from airport to train station, we don't think we will have enough time to check into a hotel. But could anyone confirm how long it is from airport to train station?
We are considering either hanging around the airport or the train station for a few hours. What is the best option to waste a few hours and what are the facilities like? Any other suggestions on what we could do would be most appreciated (we are on a medium budget). |

Hi Bunnick27,
Welcome to Kolkata. Airport to Sealdah will take less than one hour in a taxi. Considering the delay (if any) and other formalities I don’t think you’ll be able to take rest for more than 2 – 2.5 hrs. Now, I’ll suggest you to spend that time at Airport rather than Sealdah station. Reasons: 1. Comparatively clean (even restrooms). 2. Safe (there will be lot of luggage and all with you.). 3. Wait till the prepaid taxi booth to open (sorry I don’t know the exact timing). Cheers, Somnath

Staying in the airport is the best option. All the Reasons cited by #1 are correct. The prepaid counter last time I saw was open till 2 A.M. I guess it is open all thru the night, as now it is the season time for tourists "all sorts", the prepaid counter will be open all night. It is better u take a prepaid taxi only by 5 A.M. There will not be much traffic in the morning though, and the taxi will reach sealdah stn. in around 35-40 minutes, but u will be on time for the train, having a few extra minutes to spare - keeping all the contingencies in mind.
Checking in the hotel is not advisable and/or feasible for 2-3 hours. |
