Kolkata guide book

I came across the Kotkata and Haora guide by

DP Publications
66 College Sreet 700 067 @75/-.

It might look a bit cheap by the cover but really is a mine of information, hotels, restaurants, and best of all bus routes, tram routes, ferries etc
Not having much experience of Calcutta I cannot comment on the map that is included, but at least there is one.

Well worth the money

Usually these books being sold by Railway Hawkers
on Local trains, these books are infact quite
accurate and reliable.

For kolkata city map I found the best one in
Yahoo Maps on Kolkata.

Cheers

There's one fantastic book - Ten Walks In Calcutta - written by Prasenjit Dasgupta [but not really sure if it is still in circulation]. Whoever is interested can check out Oxford Book Store on Park Street or Starmark at Lord Sinha Road [Off Theatre Road].
This book has ten detailed "walks" which basically cover all the historical and other places of interest that one can see in Calcutta, and also incorporates interesting historical anecdotes.

You had better refer international reputed publications such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guide or Foot Prtints etc easily available on leading bookstores.

Yes it is still in print 2008 edition, revised, 250/-
Family book shop in Park street.

ranjan154.

Such information as contained in international reputed publications is not found in locally sourced informative books such as the ones mentioned. Moreover these small publications cost a fraction of the weighty tomes.
