I don't know Kolkata, but I'd expect there to be no problem at all, as long as you pre-book the day before.
That's what I'd do here in Chennai --- or in London, come to think of it! Your hotel or guest house may well help you out, may even have a car.

Correct. Taxi for airport is available but it would be even better if your hotel arranges it.

Expect to pay considerably more if arranged by the hotel, but worth it to avoid a headache. Most likely they will provide you with a private driver and car, rather than an ordinary taxi. Advantage is you have someone to blame (and go after) in case the car does not show up at your desired time. Often better to ask for half an hour earlier than necessary, just in case.

While there will probably be an extra fee for a hotel-arranged taxi, keep in mind that there won't be tons of taxis on the street before 6 in the morning, which means that you pretty much get what you get and the driver will know this and try to inflate the fare accordingly. All in all, you'll probably pay roughly the same amount either way.
Not to mention the peace of mind that extra charge from the hotel buys you, as compared to the hassle of an over-inflated meter conversion while trying to make a flight. |
