Kolkata – furnished accommodation ?
I am trying to find 5/4 star clean, comfortable furnished air-conditioned accommodation in a good quiet neighbourhood. It certainly has not been easy and understandably so, as there must be very limited demand for this kind of service.
However there is something I have found in Ballygunge, close to Gariahat Mall. Could someone please let me know what this area is like ? Would this be very noisy considering it is so close to a shopping mall ? I would appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks as always for all the input. |

Ballygunge is a crowded place and noise is expected but considering the facilities / communication etc it will be a good place for you. But the noise level depends on the location of the apartment. Generally, the location of almost all the famous housing complex is good and able to cut down the nose from the streets.

Thanks Somnath.
Just as I thought it is in a busy commercial area. They do say it is off the main road and there is no noise. I would prefer Salt Lake but I haven’t found anything suitable there yet. Thanks again. |

You can try out somewhere in Garia... lot of beautiful complexes are coming up. Also, Metro Rail connectivity is going to get ready within a couple of years or so..... Place like Narendrapur are quite and serene and pollution free. Ballygunge, being a commercial place has a very important presence in the city.... full of sound and air pollution. Communication can still be a problem in Saltlake once night rolls on.

I may be wrong here, but trying to help along OP: I think and going by post history, what is asked for is such accommodation short-term, i.e., for a holiday visit. Does this exist?

Thank you so much for all your replies.
Yes, machadinha you are correct, I am looking for a serviced/furnished apartment for one month. Not a hotel. Not having too much luck in finding something suitable. Some of the options currently available are Eastern Bypass; Ballygunge and Club Town on VIP road. Since I do not have much of a choice I will have to make a selection from the 3 options I currently have. I am leaning towards Club Town on VIP road but not sure of the noise from the aircrafts due to its close proximity to the airport. Would appreciate comments on the above mentioned areas. Thanks. |

VIP Road is not a very good idea for a place to stay, especially if you're new here. It is quite far from the rest of the city, connectivity is low, transport can be a problem, crime is higher.
Salt Lake for the same reasons is a bad idea. It's almost like a desert. You HAVE TO have a car if you're gonna live there. Ballygunj is a very good place to stay. Noise maybe a slight problem, but it has all the advantages that living in a well-developed south cal area can have. You can't really escape the noise anywhere in Cal. We have a slightly over developed honking finger ![]() |

“Club Town” is just great !!!! Location – Facilities – Security – considering just everything it comes among the top 10 housing complex in Kolkata. And regarding transportation …… you’ll be able to use two major roads, VIP road as well as Rajarhat (New Town) bypass which takes less than 15 minutes to come to E.M. Bypass (through new town and Slatlake sectr. - V) – so connectivity with the southern part of the city is also good. This area comes between my office and residence so I use to cross this hosing complex regularly (even at midnight) – I find it ‘Safe’. Orchid, pleas let us know that which part of Kolkata (name of the particular area) you need to visit everyday. That’ll be better to decide how good it (transportation) is. But in my personal opinion Club Town is one of best in Kolkata as far as safety & facilities are concerned. It is obvious that different people have different idea - with full respect to that I just wanted to share some experience from my family friends, relatives who stay around that area. Ohhhh…. I just forgot to mention that the location of this housing complex is away from the runway of Kolkata airport so the aircrafts will stay away from you. Cheers. ![]() Last edited by somnath : Aug 29th, 2007 at 15:23. |

Eastern Bypass - eastern bypass is the name of a road bypassing kolkata , it does not denote any specific area Ballygunge - stay there to get feel of real kolkata. i presume you must be staying in air condtitoned apartments, so outside noise will be minimal Club Town - good and peaceful location but i would prefer Ballygunge if you want to feel kolkata |

I would say Salt Lake is a nice place I have just moved in here from the UK...the advantages being its quieter than the rest of the places and is less crowded.
there are nice entertainment "areas" ....nice complexes and also good enough security considering that a lot of the cities politicians also stay in this area.. But yes choice of location would have to depend on where u r commuting to regularly. I myself commute the the Tolly club regularly for a round of golf and my work doesnt really prolong me that much on the roads! Cheers ![]() |

Thank you for all your responses.
Double-dolphin – since I will be renting a car and driver commuting is not a problem. I prefer to be far away and quiet. Somnath – I am pleased that Lake Town is worth considering. Thank you for the detailed information. I do not have any particular area that I will be commuting to daily. Since we will have a car and driver I don’t foresee commuting as a huge problem. I do understand that it would be time consuming due to the traffic but I prefer to stay in a quiet area far away from the malls and the noise. Koustav – the EM Bypass location was Brindaban Gardens. Don’t have too much information on that one. Thank you for all the information. |

Lake town (a locality) is definitely not a quiet and peaceful place. Its very congested..... Its on a single main road connecting jessore road and VIP road. Its full of houses and shops and buses and rickshaws and hordes of people all day.....
club town( an apartment complex) is on VIP road.... its a quiet place but with shops etc near by...ie not a deserted locality. so very suitable for your purpose.... there is public transport too... but if you have a car and driver at your disposal then its perfect. It will also be quite near to your relatives house in Dumdum. |
