kolkata budget hotel
Namoshkar
Last time for me in Kolkata it was still Calcutta and I was waist deep in swirly mud waters in the middle of the monsoon - in 1990. Back then a dingy dive in Sudder street (salvation army hostel) was fine lodgings. Perhaps looking for something a little better this time around, but still as central as possible. Anyone with suggestions for hotel (single room, attached bath, A/C not too important in December...) under Rs1000 (prefer Rs500-800 per night). Cannot seem to find anything on internet for under Rs2000. Any suggestions and contact details greatly appreciated. Dhonyavad in advance Dil. |

There are more hotels on Sudder Street than the Salvation Army, and some cleaner than others.... but cheap rooms are always cheap (and sometimes very ugly) rooms.
I'm one of the people who like Fairlawn, which is just around Rs 1500-2000/day; it's a luxury for me to stay there after weeks of cheap hotels in other places. |

Thanks. |

try this
It is difficult to get a decent hotel with that money. Howeve, you can try "howrah hotel", their website is www.thehowrahhotel.com, But I do not know anything about the hotel.
You can also go to www.kolkatahub.com or yatra.com and search for budget hotel. YMCA/Salvation army may also be cheaper. Hope, this may help |

I found the Capital a good one. It is in the range of Rs 400-600. You know, the basic type, clean and quiet. It's on a side street from Sudder St.

I agree that for the money Capital is pretty good. Be sure that the price quoted is the final one as they attempted to add a few things on when we checked out.

Hotel Himalaya
Has anyone stayed at Hotel Himalaya previously? I can't seem to find any reviews of the hotel online and their website is fairly minimal. Thanks very much in advance
