Kolkata: Bringing baby with me this time!!!
Hey all, I am new to IM, and I am heading to Kolkata in less than 2 weeks with my six month old daughter, I am looking forward to it but i am also nervous, I read the 'travelling to india with a baby section' but i was wondering if anyone had any extra tips or sdvice specific to Kolkata with baby, for me(like any very child friendly places to go?!)!! I have been to India a few times myself, but i guess i just need reassurance for travelling with my daughter!!! I have gotten nothing but negative remarks off people here. I am visiting friends by the way!

No specific advice, except that friends have traveled there (India, not Kolkata) with a child that age without too much problems (I'm sure others do. Run into problems, that is.) You obviously don't wanna move around too much like you might otherwise, but visiting friends it doesn't sound like you're planning to.
It's a big and hectic metropolis, what can I say. I'm sure it has its quieter parts. On another child of that age, have you read this thread: http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...a-baby-t31533/ ? On older kids, but instructive, try member Dhans's Travelling in India with Kids, as well as his other journal entries. Just a word of encouragement really. Have a safe journey, others will be in with advice no doubt. (Oh, and welcome to IndiaMike )

No problem. Come to Kolkata without any doubt. As you are from Ireland, the weather will be much warmer here when you will visit. So, weather will be much friendly. You will get everything here. But if your baby takes any specific medicine then bring it with you and also know the chemical composition of the same.Use the boiled water (15-20 minutes) for consumption of your baby.
Welcome to Kolkata. |

If you bottle feed then it is going to be a big hassle. It is recommended that you boil the nipple and bottle in boiling water and let it cool before using. (The problem is that if you wash the bottle in tap water, the bottle will get contaminated - you could try using filtered water for washing bottles and see what happens).
If you are breast feeding then it will be a breeze! If you are able to discreetly use a shawl, you can nurse anywhere. |
