Help! Looking for Kolkata pet friendly hotel

The company I am joining had agreed to housing us for up to 21 days while we find a place to live, but just this morning they shared with me how this is actually going to happen. They can't (or won't) find a hotel/temporary housing that will allow pets. They want me to place my pets at a creche during that time.

I can't do this. I can't imagine how my pets will deal with this. Does anyone know of any place in Kolkata will accept a 65 lb. greyhound, a siamese cat and two people? My 13 year old son will make more of a mess, noise, and disturbance that the pets... I imagine there must be some sort of corporate temporary housing options available?

If anyone has suggestions, please advise. :-( I don't think I can take them and I'm already in tears thinking about it. My son will be devastated, just devastated.

Thank you.

I think this will be a bit of a problem, though I may be wrong. Somebody presently in Kolkata may be able to help you better.

But a greyhound and a cat...

I would consider:

-contacting a hotel through your company or otherwise. A client staying for a month may make them more amenable to keeping the pets. Also, I would think a decent 3/4 star hotel would be more amenable than a more expensive one. But I am not too hopeful.

- leasing an apartment for a month. You will probably have to pay more rental for a short period. Better if it were furnished, but that will narrow down your options even further. Maybe you can make do for a few weeks?

I would also ask the employers to help in finding an apartment for a month.

would absolutely try to find a short term lease apartment. in a hotel you will have maids/cleaning help going in and out of the room, who knows how they will be able to handle a dog and a cat in a room?

I feel for you, jeanne. I have three cats myself (one is diabetic who I give an insulin shot to everyday!). I know how it is to worry about animals.....

I wish you much luck and a peaceful heart!

Hi Jeanne,

Bad situation!

One employee in our office is from Calcutta and I know his parents are very keen on animals. On Monday I will ask whether he can think of a solution. You never know.

Keep up your spirits, in India solutions always come when you have almost given up.

In Dutch there is a silly expression saying something like 'You never know how a cow catches a hare'. Strangely, in India cows get lots of hares.

I know that all this news must be very difficult for you. I am hoping that someone from IM knows a family in Kolkatta that will give you a room and allow your pets to stay with you for the few weeks it will take you to find your permanent home. Finding the latter that will allow you to have your pets is also going to be challenging - I am not trying to scare you, but, trying to be realistic. For some reason, I had thought that you had already made living arrangements with your pets when you were planning this move.

One crazy possibility - does anyone on IM know a vet in Kolkatta? If you are lucky, the vet may be able to board the pets (for a fee?) while you look for a place.

Keep your chin up, think positive thoughts and a solution will appear.

The company I'm joining told me they would "put me up" for 21 days while I look for a place, and they said they would have "a few flats to choose from when I get here".

I've already contacted three hotels that have a reputation for being pet friendly, the Landmark Hotel, Great Eastern Hotel and Lytton Hotel. I've also started looking into places to rent. I guess I'm learning a lesson about getting specifics...

Thanks so much for the information. I feel better already.
