Flower Nurseries

Hello Friends,

I am a gardening enthusiast and new to this city. Please give me some names and addresses of Kolkata Flower Nurseries from where I can buy flowers and plants. I happen to live in South Kolkata.

Thanks.

There are many shops in Lake Market near Kalighat Metro station that sells plants, saplings and seeds. You will find many in Gariahat market also. Just besides Arambagh store near Ruby Hospital is a good and reliable nursery.
However, all major nurseries have shops in Sealdah in central Kolkata.

horticultural garden

they have a nursery - but do they still sell saplings / plants etc, you will have to call and find out.

directions:
coming from the race course road [forget the name of the road ]...
take a left - the turning to taj bengal
then its a straight road - landmarks are:
past the zoo on your right
past the national library on your left
past the turning to woodlands nursing home on your right
a little way ahead - the garden is on your left.

coming from hazra road - follow the tram tracks upto alipore and judges court crossing
at the crossing - turn right
a little way ahead - the garden is on your right.

even if they do not sell plants - at least you can have a fun day at the garden
and dont forget to go to the botanical gardens - a tad run down - but worth a visit.
take the ferry down the river for the botanics

Thank you Brishti for mentioning Horticulture Gardens in Alipore. Yes, they do sell saplings as well as common fertilizers and pesticides from their office. Also there are some nurseries that specialise in orchids. There is one in Picnic Garden.
And if you are interested in Flower Shows, there are 2-3 big ones held every year in the city. The first show of the year is in the Assembly House in the 3rd/4th week of December. The second one is in the Horticulture grounds in February. A third one is held at Eden Gardens, but did not take place last year.
