Hello friends

Biggest festival of Kolkata is known as DURGA PUJA. This year it will be held on 1st Of October to 5th of October.It's depeneds on bengali Celendar. But it's always in month of Ocober.

I wish I could get away for the early part of October, just for Durga Puja. Alas, work will keep me here until the middle of the month.

i am arriving saturday oct 4 - will it be a problem getting a hotel for a few days?

It's better you book you hotel in Advance. Generaly Sasadr street Hotel don't have problem. But you will be in problem of traffic jump . Are you arriving by air or by train?

If you hire Taxi. take straight VIP road then By pass - Park street.
Or better hire a car for that. Are you staying in Sadar street Hotel or some where else?What is your arrivibg time?

not sure where staying, arriving at 10:00 Am with a friend who has been to India before. probably staying on Suddar St.

Morning generaly you don't find any problem traffic.It's better you book your hotel .5th October you must go to river ganga to see emmersion of Durga idol.

When in kolkata during Durgapuja, it can be an experience for a life time to visit the heritage houses of the Bengalee families celebrating this festival since couple of centuries uninterrupted. for last few years there are conducted tours from various agencies. you may contact me for details.
