I hope this is ur 1st time in kolkata. So u have missed out a lot. Here IMers (I dont Think) wish to have missed out an inch.. Find a new way or place yourself to add it to the world map. This will be a Master of all researches in modern times. This cannot be a copy paste procedure. You have your whole life for such a petty task. So, start searching today not on maps but by Travelling.
Buddhu Bhutoom!
I was remembering sitting with my Thakurma as she told me the story of Buddhu Bhutoom, and simply could not remember the ending (as in how they become humans)...and then you stopped telling the story! Please, please let me know where can I read the rest?!
Hello DipsC and welcome to IndiaMike.
Hopefully Jyotida will come back and finish the tale.

If you can read Bengali, it's easy enough, -- just buy the real thing (Thakurmar Jhuli by Dakshinaranjan) from Flipkart and have it delivered to your hand! You'll get many more enchanting Roopkathas as well. There is also an excellent CD (also available at Flipkart) that dramatizes Buddhu Bhutoom and Lalkamal - Neelkamal. It was extremely popular with kids when it was released on LP decades back. I still love it!

Dekha Hoi Nai Cokkhu Melia
Quote:
Yes, TD I also think so..

And when Satyajit and Rabindranath are in one frame, I can hear this...

Bohu din dhore, bohu krosh dure,
bohu byay kori, bohu desh ghure,
Dekhite giyachhi parbotmala, dekhite giyachhi sindhu,
Dekha hoy nai chokkhu meliya,
Ghar hote shudhu dui pa feliya,
Ekti dhaner shisher upore ekti shishir bindu.
Translated into English:
I traveled miles, for many a year,
I spent a lot in lands a far,
I’ve gone to see the mountains, the oceans I’ve been to view.
But I haven’t seen with these eyes
Just two steps from my home lies
On a sheaf of paddy grain, a glistening drop of dew.

As I read somewhere, Rabindranath wrote this when Satyajit asked for a autograph from him.

It's one of my favorite from Rabindranath
A couple of interesting stories in today's Telegraph of Kolkata, the first concerns an American film maker who is chronicling stories of Ladies' Travel Tales of yore:
Daring ladies & their travel diaries Stories from a nun and a lady with a gun
- US filmmaker pitches tent to shoot chronicles of Calcutta over a century ago
The other story is about the novelist Sankar and the 50th Anniversary of the publication of his bestseller "Chowringhee":
Anniversary tribute to novel’s success

TD, the Google Doodle at www.google.co.in is dedicated to Satyajit Ray.

I think it is inspired from Pather Panchali.
