Botanical garden was just beside my college. I have been there loads of times. It was a 10mins walk from my hostel. So loads of nostalgia......
1. No idea if there is a cycle parking area. but there is a market just beside the entrance gate (Kole market).... and also lot of vendors etc ....so maybe you can park your cycle with one of them for the day. 2. we never paid an entry fee. not even aware that there is one(is there...?)... Even if there is one,it will be very nominal... so I dont think you have to be prepared or have a budget for that. 3. Sadly, no pictures with me. |

Hi Chirag,
I stay nearby to second gate of B.Garden. In second gate there is no parking place that is for sure as I have never been seen any vehicles. The entry fee is Rs. 5/-. The first gate is near to B E College & I really don't know much about it. But I have heard from many people during the morning walk, that they come from far off places in their car for morning walk. So definitely, there has to be some parking place. Regarding pictures of B Garden (Popularly known here), you can always search in Google Images, you will get many. For more information about it: http://164.100.52.111/indianBotanicgarden.shtm If you need more information, then let me know I will find it for you. P.S. Dont forget to see "The Great Banyan Tree", looks like a miniature forest and is over 250 years old with 2800 prop roots covering an area of 1.5 hectares.

Botanic Garden ….. nostalgic ! Nayan (B.E. College? ) and Ann (near Lipi? Is it still there?) you’ll be able to spot the place, we used to stay at Danesh Sk. Lane, Howrah and I was a student of Pragyanananda; can you remember those black and white uniform? Ha ha….
We used to spend a lot of time inside the B’Garden but our entry point was a small gate (attached to staff quarters) near Bakultala busstop. Though cycle was not allowed but we had some special arrangement to cross the gate ha ha ha…. and never thought to keep our cycles outside. You can understand the attraction of B’garden to the local guys…. Hmmm….? But I do not have single photograph of B’Garden !!!! I know, this is not possible now. I’ve left Howrah in 1993 and came to know that it is changed, now the visitors need to pay for entering inside the garden. But is there any real development? Like more plants / maintanace etc. I can remember that some photographs are there from some IMers (was it Jorge or Tomi ? ) but …… anyways, if Chirag could share his recent pix…….. hey Chirag plz don’t forget to post your pix. - Somnath

What can I say, just go and check it out. It's an excellent respite from city madness, right in the city, in any case.
The grounds are vast, and what you'll get to see will depend on the time of year no doubt. My information isn't recent either, but I was surprised at the time to find little or no refreshments on offer inside the park. I've seen similar reports here to that effect. So it can't hurt to bring some of your own. Am I right thinking one can take a ferry here from the east bank of the Hooghly? The park closes at sunset I believe, if this is still the case. I suppose it may get crowded on weekends.

Maybe you were just a little more impatient than was called for?
(Oh, and can you please lay off the SMS peak? This is an international forum, and many people will find it hard enough to follow just plain English, thanks.)What I don't get is you seem to be from Kolkata anyway, right? Do you really need us to get on a bicycle to the gardens, and what's been keeping you all this time? |

Mod Note
Chirag - if some of the forums occasionally go off topic (and members want to take a stroll down memory lane) then that's not a problem. It seems to be one of the features of IM that members approve of - that it is not so tightly controlled as to interfere with the flow of questions/ answers and prevent conversations from taking a few twists and turns now and again. Also keep in mind that all the information provided here by members is voluntary. No one is forced to provide information or respond to requests. As such information is asked for, and given freely. One last thing - as has been mentioned it would be most appreciated if you could use full words in posts and not text language. This can be quite a big problem for some of our members. Thanks for your understanding.
