Question Any trekking arranger in Kolkata?

Hi All,

I am extremely interested in trekking & living in Kolkata...I went Sandhakphu once by trek, had lots of study regarding trekking routes all over India...a lover of nature & photography...My problem is that I am a girl, doing software engg,& very much lack of interested people around. So it was never possible to make a group of at least 4 people so that we could able to go alone...My boyfriend is also interested & in the same profession. Is there any institute/authority/club/group who arrange trekkings every year so that both of us can join them?Youth Hostel is an option but problem is that Youth Hostel arranged very few treks n their routes are quite passe, like Chandrakhani Pass,Kalatop etc...Actually we are planning Dzongri in April & Pindari/kuwari Pass/Tapovan around Sept/Oct,though the plans are not redundant, just a possibility or you can say a wish to go these places...Can anyone give address or name of contact person who can arrange trekking or any group we can join? Please help us out?

Regards,
Nabanita

where do you want to go exactly?? Dzongri ?? If so, you dont need to find someone in Kolkata - just go to Pelling, and you will find lots of guided tour operators. They will also lend out hiking gear for a price.

I am afraid u r not gettin me right... i am basically looking for tour operators in Kolkata like some Mountaineering Institutes or clubs...If I took a membership of such type of clubs we can join them if they arrange any trekking within a year...otherwise I know that I will get very good guided tour operators from basecamps wherever I wanna go for trek...

Hi Nabanita,
Welcome to IndiaMike.
1. http://www.bloom9.com/info/mountaineering_trekking.asp

2. http://www.asiarooms.com/travel-guid...ing-club).html

These two links may help you. But Nabanita, let me tell you very honestly, I do have similar interest but since I am not attached to any such club / organization I am not sure if this is authentic / reliable.
And, you can refer to this one: Trekking gear in Calcutta / Kolkata - ubac / cliff line / Hi Trek they have their association (quite popular).
For Dzongri – Goecha la you need to contact as rightly mentioned, some organizer from Sikkim. We did the same at our own (one operator quoted 1000/- per person per day !) but, as you need to carry your ration / fuel everything it is certainly a bit difficult for a team of only two. If you are not attached to any club or organization you can try to contact some tour operator from Sikkim.

BTW, please don’t forget to share (if it is uploaded) your travel photographs from Sandakphu trip.

Cheers,
Somnath
