Advice for Tabla in Kolkata, buying and lessons

Hi friends

I will arrive in Kolkata in a few days. I plan to stay there a couple of weeks and to take tabla lessons.
Can anyone of you recommend a teacher or give any advice how to find one?
I also want to buy several tablas. Do you know a good shop that offers shipping abroad?

thanks for your help!

Thumbs up Welcome to Kolkata

Hi Dani,
Welcome to Kolkata. I do not know about Tabla / music institutions but I know someone who is a student of Rashid Khan. I can give you his phone number. Sorry, I understand its not enough. Still if you think it may help you, I’ll send you his number.

Lot of small shops are there in Lalbazar and you can try these shos also.

You can find many music shops in Kolkata. One of the most reputable sitar makers in the world (India) is Hiren Roy so this shop could help you and perhaps put you in contact with a teacher. Good luck and have a wonderful trip

Thanks friends for your advice.
I have however meanwhile moved on to Varanasi where it is very easy to get Tabla lessons. It might be a bit a touristy thing here but that is alright with me, after all I am a tourist and have only limited time, not enough for serious studies.
I have now had a couple of lessons and I am very happy so far.

thanks, daniel
