3 Months Working in Kolkata - Info Plz

Hi all,

Well im off to Kolkata in November for 3 months of work on contract! Everybody says im mad but I like to think it will be a great experience for me

Was hoping someone could help me out with some details on living arrangements, the office im going to be working is based in Rajarhat, Newtown! I have an accommodation allowance in my contract however I don't particularly want to live in a hotel for 3 months purely because I think it will be boring and I will miss whatever Kolkata may have to offer!

Does anyone know of any nice furnished 1 or 2 bedroom apartments or housing or even share flats that are located close to Newtown or a bit further out but with easy transportation methods? I would prefer something maybe serviced or with a gym in complex or on grounds… I have been reading a lot on this forum about how good ‘Club Town’ is to stay, is this very far from ‘Newtown’??

The more I read about Kolkata the more im looking forward to heading out there, Im sure there is going to be plenty to see and do!!
Thanks in advance peoples…

Club town is going to be one of the nearest possibilities. There are also some new and posh complexes on EM bypass called "mani square" and silver springs.

search in 99acres.com and magicbricks.com for kolkata east to get an idea. once you reach kolkata stay for a few weeks in a hotel and finalise on the apartment.

Dont think there are any nice hotels in/near clubtown or in newtown.
if your budget streches to it then hyatt(near salt lake stadium) or ITC sonar bangla(near park circus-EM bypass crossing) will be the nearby good ones.

another option is Vedic Village which is quite near Newtown.

Its a eco-tourism cum residential complex.

Hi Khak, Cheers for the mention of Vedic Village, this place looks amazing but pretty expensive also (Think its 5000 INR+LT per night)!!

I have decided that i will stay in a hotel for the first 2 weeks so i can settle in to what sounds like will be an overwhelming experience...

Then i will be searching for an apartment in or around club town and at resonable price, anyone currently staying in club town that can share some info??

Hi Tinkz,
I had rented an apartment for a month for some colleagues from abroad. This was in South Calcutta, close to Gariahat. If you are interested to know more, mail me at: kapitanmoody at gmail dot com

Thumbs up Welcome

Welcome to Kolkata.
Nov to jan is decent time to be in Kolkata. Weather is good, lots of fairs & festivals in Dec / Jan. Hope you all will enjoy here.

Any Hotel around Kolkata Airport and hotels in Saltlake area (equal distance from Rajarhat) would be good for you. As a citizen of Kolkata I’ve noticed Internet booking / websites are not that popular (as compared to personal contacts) to get a rental apartment or similar in Kolkata. Hence, it would be better to take help from colleagues (once you are here).

I wouls like to request you to read those Hotels near Kolkata Airport threads. Club Town is a great place (both facilities & location) for you. But since my office is near Rajarhat area, we’ve noticed some upcoming apartments in Rajarhat itself. So your local office can really help you.

- Cheers.

Hello all,

Well bit of a delay on the work visa front but finally i got my leave date for next Thursday 6th Nov (I got two sore shoulders from vaccinations to )!!

So work is putting me in a hotel (The Oberio or something) for 2 weeks when i arrive to get settled etc.. Its Looking like i will be pretty busy on the work front for first couple of weeks but have weekends off still ...

Any suggestions on 'Must Do' things whilst settling in??
As im heading to Kolkata alone im hoping to hook up with a few expacts over my time there to get some insider knowledge on places to go and see etc..

Catchya soon
