Wayanad to Kannur - what's the easiest way?
My husband and I will be traveling from Wayanad (not sure yet if Kalpetta or Manathavady) to Kannur, and I am wondering if anyone can give me advice on the best way to get from place to place. Are there buses? If so, where do you pick them up and where do they drop you?

No problem: it's what moderators are for.
It can be tough knowing where to put stuff, especially where there is more than one place it could logically go.
Err... sorry I can't actually answer your question

Yes, there are buses. You can catch them from the Mananthavady private bus stand, and they will drop you in Kannur private bus stand. There would be KSRTC buses as well. I know that the route from Mananthavady goes through Iritti/Koothuparamba, but not sure of the entire route. From Kalpetta, come down to Calicut and then go to Kannur. You will get lots of KSRTC buses to Calicut, from there you could take a train to Kannur (3 hours) or a bus.
Mazha already provided the requested information.
To Add on:
Even if you are starting from Kalpetta Or Mananthavady, you catch Kannur Bus directly [ There are hourly buses ,Mostly Private bus to Kannur] .
If you take Calicut route from Kalpetta , you will just get out of Wayanad Scenery within 10 kms or so But the "Views" from Thamaraserry Ghat road is Fantastic
If you take Kannur route from Kalpetta or Mananthavady [which passes via Periya- Kuthuparamba], you have the luxury of enjoying Wayanad Climate /Scenery for around 60 kms + i.e until Kuthuparamba
Hope this helps !

As far I remember it's 57 kms between Mananthavadi to Koothuparamba. Also I do not remember seeing any decent lodges in Koothuparamba and No Lodges available in Periya[ Periya is very small village just in Hills and much closer to Mananthavadi itself]
You may opt to stay in Mananthavadi Or Thalaserry .
