visit to Lakshadweep?

I believe the only way to do this on a reasonable budget is to take the 5 day boat trip from Kochi with http://www.lakshadweeptourism.com

Is this the case? I have emailed the organization but am not sure if the email got through.

Thanks - hope to get more info here first - it's too expensive for me to call them for info!

Since it is a govt. organisation you will have to wait for some days before they reply. If still they do not reply you can just ask them if they have recd. your E-mail & ask them to reply back.

They have launched a new ship MV Kavaratti & new package Samudram. Just few days back I had an interaction with one of their employess during a travel fair in Mumbai.

I don't know about Britain, but calling India from where I'm at (the Netherlands) is really not expensive. It might be if you're on a mobile phone; consider a telecom shop (or a friend with a landline) in that case.

Thanks to both of you. I'll wait a few days and then decide what to do. Do you know anything about the new ship/package?

What is it you want to do in the Lakshadweeps. Rather than travel from one island to another you could take the ferry to Kadmat and stay on this island. There are watersports facilities including snorkelling and diving. Not much else to do but relax and enjoy the beaches and solitude. The accommdation is in individual villas and the cost is $88 per night per couple including all meals. Check outr www.lacadives.com for more details.

That does sound an interesting option. I'll look into it. I guess here isn't that much to do, apart fom laze around and snorkel a bit.

Lazing around sounds good to me - no TV, no radio, no news - heaven.
It is a dry island like most of the islands in the Lakshadweeps but that has never bothered us as Kadmat is so peaceful. At the resort end it is very very quiet. The first year we went there we were the only two tourists on the island and had all the beach to ourselves. If you like snorkelling the reef is very close to the shore so you can see many different types of fish and possibly turtles and sharks(harmless).

I looked and think I'd rather take one of the packages staying on one of the islands. The one to Minicoy is only two nights - a bit short? And three nights for Kavaratti + Kadmat. Has anyone been to the islands - it's hard to know which is nicer!
