Visisting Wayanad

Hi Buddies,

I am planning to visit wayanad in the last week of September, its a family trip with 7 adults and 4 kids (all are less than 5 yrs). My selection is to give them exposure of wildlfe and wild animals if we are lucky. However i heard that we cannot take kids to all plcaes as most of the tourist spots cannot be reached by car, we need to walk atleast a Km or 2. Is it true?

Also suggest me a good accomadation my budget is around Rs 1200 / day for a double bed room.

Thanks
Nadodi

Hello nadodi, welcome to IM!

Wayanad is certainly a great place to give children an exposure to the wild. However, its still the end of monsoon in these parts and hence the chances of spotting wildlife must definitely be low.

And yes, a lot of places in wayanad have to be reached by doing short hikes/treks from a drop-off point. And also all the sight-seeing places in wayanad are located at a good distance from each other, so it takes a good amount of time to cover places.

Its best to stay at Kalpetta to cover most places. A good option for accommodation within your budget is the woodlands hotel in Kalpetta, Wayanad. You could also stay at Sulthan bathery if you are planning to take a safari at Muthanga sanctuary (~15 kms) the next morning.

Please feel free to go through my wayanad trip log for some additional details and a more comprehensive overview of the place.

P.S: You could have got a lot of replies if you had posted this in the Kerala forum

My best best is stay near Kurva dweep They have islands with lots of birds.Least we have birds if not animals
With Kids and family you avoid Eddakkal caves steep hike
Soojipara water falls again another long hike
