There are both taxis and autos outside Trivandrum Central station, there's also a pre-pay place, use it, the auto drivers will do all they can to stop you going to the pre-pay because they want to rip you off.

I hope you're not relying on a long distance train arriving on time so you can then get to the airport for a flight, where does your train start it's journey? (if you don't know, what's the train number?)

Usually only the taxi drivers are trying to stop you. If you walk directly to the prepaid counter in the middle of the parking in front of the station (you really can't miss it) they'll have no chance.

In general, Trivandrum auto drivers are not soo bad as compared to other cities.

Maybe they've changed, they were awful about 7 years ago, it was difficult to get them down to Rs150 even when I told them the pre-pay was only Rs75 (to Kovalam), and even the pre-pay is inflated, but they got me on the return journey when there wasn't any alternative (I didn't know the buses and was too lazy to find out. )

An addition: In the night (I think after 10 pm) the fare is higher (even the prepaid).

Thanks everyone. I need to be at the airport by 2.30am and the train 'should' arrive at 11.30pm. Hopefully that will be enough time, even if the train is slightly late.

Good luck
Sometimes trains are in time or even earlier, but sometimes 2 hours delay can happen, too.

And 5 hours late, or 10 hours late, or 24 hours late isn't unheard of for long distance trains to Trivandrum, I seem to remember the average delay to the Trivandrum-Guwahati Express used to be 24 hours, still, you can always get the next day's flight.

It's ESSENTIAL to know where your train starts it's journey when you have a tightish connection.

OK, 6127 starts from Chennai, so it shouldn't be too late, though have a plan B ready just in case.

I've always been on time with my Chennai/Kerala trains (errr... so have the trains).

Except for my first-ever Indian train journey, Ernakalum (Kochi) to Trivandrum, less than six hours --- which sat just outside Trivandram station for Two Hours due to a union demo.

Most people just jumped off and walked. I had far too much baggage to even think about it.
