Trivandrum Airport to Varkala
Hiya,
I will be arriving at Trivandrum airport and ideally want to flop on a beach for a few days and get settled before I head off up the coast. I would like to head straight to Varkala from the airport but I know I won't fancy navigating trains or buses straight off a long haul flight from the UK. Is it possible to get a taxi to Varkala from the airport? Any ideas on how long it will take and how much it should cost? Plan B is to head to Kovalam but have heard mixed reviews about it... Thanks in advance Vicky |

Best bet is taxi .There is a prepaid taxi desk just by the exit from the airport ,opposite the change money desk .Cant remember how much , but it wasn't over the top ,guess at 3oo irs ,time for trip once again a guess , 1 Hour .,and then you are on a hot sunny beach

Varkala is around 50 km from Trivandrum, depending on what time of day or night you land up, it would be 1 - 2 hours by taxi.
My guess would be close to Rs.500-1000 for the trip if you hire a pre-paid cab from the airport. |

trivandrum airport to varkala
hi vixx
Just returned back from kerala, the taxi from varkala to trivandrum airport on 2 jan at 1am, cost 800 rupees, dont pay anymore. Got well and truly ripped off at the start paying 800 rupees from trivandrum airport to trivandrum centre! Have fun, Varkala is beautiful. Go to the sunshine cafe, the staff are soooooo friendly and happy, despite working 15 hour shifts a day! Just |

... and if you want real good food in Varkala go to the restaurant of the "Sanctum Spring Resort" at the "Helipad" the big parking lot at Northern Cliff. Looks from outside expensive, but isn't. A good chicken tikka masala is 100 rp, a butterfish in banana leaf in excellent sauce for 2 people around 400-500rp.

'cafe del mar' along the main strip is always busy - good food, good coffee, friendly service and very cheap. the taxi ride from/to varkala/trivandrum airport takes an hour and a quarter usually. quicker at night/early morning as there is less traffic. cost - from rs800 to rs1500 (depending on the car). |

... I just mentioned the good food and we tried during 15 days in Varkala several restaurants. For a drink at sundown there are probably better places.

Trivandrum/February or March
Where is a cheap/clean place to stay in Trivandrum for a few days especially if you are arriving at the airport from a long flight from overseas in the middle of the night? Thank you

Even you arrive in the middle of the night book before a hotel either in Kovalam (max. 2-3 nights) which takes less than an hour by taxi (375 rupees in evening) or go to Varkala (800 rupees) which takes one hour. Trivandrum is a very busy indian town....
