Trivandrum Airport to Kovalam?
Hi! I'm going to be arriving at Trivandrum airport in the evening after a very long flight (and am therefore not likely to be particularly on the ball!). What's the best and safest way to get a taxi to Kovalam? - are there pre-paid taxis that can be booked within the airport? Any idea how much I should be paying? Thanks!

Prepaid no probs.. Around 250rs. You will probably find someone "outside" the gates will do it for 200 but at that time of night maybe not because they may not find it so easy to get a fare back into TVM...

I paid 350 last time I used a pre-paid at Triv airport - the booth is on the right hand side just before you get to the exit door, so don't miss it or you will be bombarded by taxi drivers on the outside. The time for your adventure to start has come around very quickly, hope you have a good flight and a fabulous stay. Let me know if you fancy a cuppa when you recover from the jet lag....

Although I can beleive it...I remember last time I arrived off a GULF flight, I kept the desert from the meal ( a pre-wrapped fruitcake.. and no, not me ) and 'tipped the driver' by giving it to him ... after his constant ( yet friendly ) references to his children needing much 'keeping'.. It worked and somehow I remember the 'agreed' price coming down.. ![]() |

I almost felt sorry for him. He approached me; his face dropped when I indicated my lady who negotiated in fluent Malayalam! But how prices have gone up! It is only three or four years since I took an auto from Kovalam to Trivandrum, shopped and returned, all for Rs50. Now it is 100-150 each way ![]() Kovalam certainly seems to have become a magnet for the young, and it seemed to me that the majority were female (...OK, I admit I sometimes have a problem noticing the men in a crowd!). Certainly no-one has mentioned conservative Indian dress to them !I see that the Kashmiri monopoly on gift shops is being eroded by Tibetans. There seems to be good attention paid to infrastructure: collection of rubbish from the beach and sweeping of the path was going in regularly. Also quite a large presence of persons name-badged 'Tourist Police'.
