Hi,
We are planning a trip for Kerala this Oct and have some places in mind (Munnar ->Thekkady , a day in Alleppy ...
Although we are not too keen for a stay at the houseboats we would still want to explore that; hence a stay at Alleppy is what we are thinking about.
However, a little confused if we should visit Poovar or Kovallam or Varkala (we plan to spend at least 2 nights at one of this place ...) - Which places would be good and what all can we cover staying at one of these places. Would Kanyakumari be close enough to visit?
We plan to fly in to Cochin from Pune and still deciding how we want to fly out .. maybe from Trivandrum or maybe back from Cochin...

Thank you...

Is houseboat experience (without stay) is what you want then you could check out https://www.ktdc.com/tours.php. This way you could save a day from Alleppey by skipping it.

If you plan to depart from Trivandrum then you could consider Varkala or Kovalam. Kanyakumari is possible as a day trip from Trivandrum. If you hire a car see Padmanabhapuram Palace on the way to Kanyakumari. It will be closed on Mondays.

Thank you for the quick response aarosh
I believe a half-day cruise would be sufficient; have kids (5+ to 14) so not sure what all they would do on the houseboat the full day :-)
Yes, Varkala or Kovalam is what we were thinking off. Just heard of Poovar too; hence the query and the confusion
Not sure about Kanyakumari yet but thank you for the suggestion - will keep that in mind
What all places should we not miss in our overall 7-8 day stay (Munnar - Thekkady - Half day Cruise - Varkala/Kovalam - Trivandrum is what we are thinking off) - is this good enough. Is there anything in particular we shouldn't miss...

We did the full day trip with the KTDC out of Kochi. The participants were between 6 and 86 and everyone enjoyed the trip.
You can read about it it the Kochi - Delhi journal in my signature.

Poovar can be clubbed with Kanyakumari if you stay at Kovalam.
Leave early in the morning, you should be able to finish by late night. (long day, but then it would just be a trip back to the hotel after finishing with Kanyakumari after the sunset). (own pvt vehicle timings)
Sar Pass Trek , Rohtang, Munnar, Badrinath Kedarnath, Vaishnodevi, Goa

Hi..

I did this trip last year, starting from Trivandrum & moving out from Cochin.

Day 1 - Trivandrum
Day 2 - Kanyakumari ( en route poovar boat ride a must do)
Day 3 - Kovallam (Varkala is also a good option, as it reduces next day travel time to Alleypey)
Day 4 - Alleypey House Boat (though most of my friends advised not to, for us this was a ver good experience)
Day 5 - Thekaddy
Day 6 - earky morning Santhram tour & then move to Munnar
Day 7 - Munnar
Day 8 - Munnar
Day 9 - Cochin (visited athripally falls before reaching cochin)
