Trip To Kerala - December 2010 - Need Help!
Hey guys,
I am going to Kerala with my wife for our 25th anniversary on the 7th of December to 13th of December. We have our flights from Cochin while coming and returning.
I am really confused about where all to go and where all to stay. Could you people plan a trip for me that we would really enjoy? We would love to get an authentic lifestyle of Kerala at some places. Also, please refer medium priced hotels, car hire services, etc.
A houseboat journey or similar is a must! Please Help us out.
Really Appreciate It

Hi
I agree with the route dibrasha proposes - I think it is the most "common" route as it takes in many highlights and is varied.I think you should spend most of your time in Munnar and the Backwaters (around Kumarakom or Allepey. I didn't enjoy Cochi very much as it is very touristy (so 1 day is more than enough, in my opinion).
As you say you would like to enjoy "authentic" lifestay, I recommend that you try staying in a homestay for a couple of nights. There are lots of homestays all over Kerala - we stayed in several and our hosts were always really lovely and helpful. A good site to get you started is Mahindra Homestays, but you can also find them through google or tripadvisor.

Sorry if I'm invading your post, just wanted the discussion to continue here so that it's easier for further reference for other travellers since I'm traveling (for our honeymoon) in December as well. We arrive in Kochi on 28th Dec and fly back on 4th Jan from the same city.
The plan is Munnar (3N) - Thekkedy (2N) - Alleppey (1N) - Cherai (1N). From what I've read and gathered, Munnar is a place that you cannot get enough of so devoting 3 nights to Munnar. My (would be) wife loves wild-life so Thekkedy/Periyar is a must do. I'm interested in seeing a bit of the much acclaimed Kerala backwaters so interested in Alleppey as well, and I've included Cherai again for the beach (wife likes) and the backwaters (?). Basically, I'm trying to avoid a lot of hectic sightseeing in Cherai, would like to spend this day leisurely. What do you guys think?

Please spell English words normally --- it's a forum rule.
We don't mind bad spelling, but we do mind sms and chat lingo. Please avoid using it.
Certainly you are visiting Kerala at peak time, and rates are going to reflect that. You probably wouldn't even get in to the more expensive places, but people tell me that budget accommodation is always available, especially in a place like Kovalam.
