Hey there!

I need some help arranging my trip! I am arriving to Cochin Airport and would like to visit Athirapally Falls and Munnar. Maybe Valparai, since it seems to be not far away. I am arriving in the end of Dec.2011 and have 4 days. My questions are:

1. How can I get from Cochin to Athirapally Falls? What are the rates for the cab? Can i catch the cab in Cochin Airport
2. Would you suggest to take the cab with the driver for the whole period of 4 days, or catch the cab in each location? Is it easy to find a cab in each of those locations?
3. Is it worth to visit Valparai?
4. How are the roads to those places?
5. Suggestion for accommodation in all 3 places? Preferably not expensive ones.

Looking forward for your tips!

Thanks in advance!
Greetings from Austria,
K

Hey, would suggest hiring a taxi for all 4 days together at the airport itself. Suggest you change your itinerary to Cochin-Athirapally-Munnar-Thekkady-Cochin.

Hi K,

It will be too-rushing journey if you try to explore all what you have mentioned. Even though Athirapally to Valparai road is interesting, Nothing much there in Valparai as such .

My suggestion would be:-

Cochin-Athirapally Wateralls followed by 2 -3 Days in Munnar Or 2 Days in munnar and 1 Day in Thekkady/Periyar.

Cab end-to-end is better as anyways tourist spots of Munnar is again far apart and you need to get into ready-made package with crowd or hire cab for your own.

December might not be the BEST TIME to visit Athirapally waterfalls . It will be at it's beauty's best between June -Mid to Oct-Mid.

hii
how many people are you coming?
How can I get from Cochin to Athirapally Falls? What are the rates for the cab? Can i catch the cab in Cochin Airport. Airport is 35km from cochin and athirappilly is 67km from cochin (ernakulam).Airport lies in between the city and athirappilly. lot depends on what time your flight reach cochin? from airport athirappilly is less than an hours drive
2. Would you suggest to take the cab with the driver for the whole period of 4 days, or catch the cab in each location? Is it easy to find a cab in each of those locations?
hiring a cab for four days will be better as you can bargain/fix rate for the entire round trip
3. Is it worth to visit Valparai? yes, its a great place
4. How are the roads to those places. roads are okay not excellent
5. Suggestion for accommodation in all 3 places? Preferably not expensive ones - again it depends on how many persons?- athirappilly and munnar there are different choices. if you can let know the dates and number of people i can find out and post here. distance from cochin (ernakulam is the city) to munnar is 140- 150km.rates might be high in december end and rooms will be difficult if we dont book in advance. all the best

hi K,
Valaprai is definitely worth the visit, for the only reason that its not very commercialized yet, its quite an unexplored area, you would definitely not complain!
Thanks
AJ
