travel advice- Airport-Kochi-Allepey
Hi,
This is one of those questions that may annoy a few who will cleverly pick up that i am using this as a sounding board- i always appreciate your advice! We fly from Delhi to Kochi arriving at 4.30pm. We intend to travel in and spend a night at Fort Kochi then travel to Allepey the following day- we need to be in Allepey for that day. My question...Here goes... Are we being silly? Is that enough time in Kochin? Should we just head to Allepey off the plane and try and squeeze Kochin into the trip en route back up north by removing Munar for example from our plan? Or just miss out staying in Kochin altogether? Maybe I'm just getting jumpy, as only 8 weeks to go Jinja |

It's not easy giving you an answer to this question as it depends on what you want to do in Kochi and Munnar. By the time you get out of the airport at Kochi and get a taxi to Fort Kochi it will be about 6.30pm so not much time to do anything on that day. Depending on what time you need to be in Alleppy will determine whether you have time for sightseeing/shopping in Kochi. Although I love Kochi given that it is pretty hot and humid there now you might find the cooler temperature of Munnar a welcome break. There is enough to see and do in Munnar to spend two days there and depending on your time schedule you might be able to go back to Kochi for a night or two.

Thanks Clive,
Fair point. We would either be getting a quick feel for the plantations and scenery of munar or wandering around the streets of Kochi. We just want a feel for the variety of India- we only have a 3 week stay in all so trying to maximise sights and travelling. Do you know if we travel straight from Fort Kochi to Allepy or have to go back into Ernakulam to get to Allepey? Cheers Jinj |

Are you planning to take a taxi to Alleppey or train. If a train then you would have to go to Ernakulam. You can do this by ferry across the harbour and then an auto to the station or take a taxi or auto to the station (I prefer the ferry - more fun, you see the harbour and possibly dolphins and battle with the locals to get on the ferries!)

Cheers Clive,
Thought we could get a bus from Fort Kochi? Else yes think that's a good idea re the ferry- fingers crossed on dolphins as they never seem to appear where expected, or hoped, when we travel. |
