Thumbs up kovalam to cochin

hi...
the nearest rail head to kovalam is the trivandrum railway station which is roughly 20km from kovalam...and i remember taking a train in the morning from trivandrum called Jan Shatabdi which runs all days except sundays from trivandrum to cochin...it is a very comfortable train and takes only 4and a half hours for the entire journey and one of the most comfortable trains with good seats and pantry services...you donot need a reservation and you can buy the tickets an hour before departure...if you were to stay in varkala than kovalam, it would be much easier to board this train and I having stayed in both kovalam and varkala, my choice to spend 5 days would definitely be varkala...i wil see if i can find the rail link and send it to you...cheers![

trains in Kerala are a refreshing change

No need to book in advance. turn up, buy a ticket, wait for comfy train, get on, chill out and reach the destination. I think Trivandrum to Ernakulam (the station you need for Cochin) is about 5 hours as Carina said. Plenty of Masala Chai, a good book and great views and your there.

Buy the tickets from the station on the day. Don't bother with the local travel agents unless you want to fly instead.

Enjoy I wish i was planning this again.... Kerala is one of the most beautiful places in the world

Chinadolly

Check out this link:

http://erail.in/

Use the pull down menu, choose Trivandrum for the From list
Choose Ernakulum for the To list

You will find plenty of trains - eg, the early morning Jan Shatabdi exp is only 3:20 journey.

Cheers
