Tourist Ayurvedic massage
I've used the search and come up with many things but none of them seem to have an answer really.
We'll be in Cochin, Munnar, Thekkady and Kovalam whilst in India and would like to have an Ayurvedic massage. From what I've read it seems Ayurveda is very serious and taken for longer than 1 day, but we just want a nice relaxing massage or something, just 1 day or 1 afternoon, whatever. I've read on here that there are many disreputable places so does any one have any recommendations of somewhere good for just a day in those places? Our hotel in Kovalam (the Leela) offers Ayurvedic spa services but I'm not really sure if they'll be good and over inflated prices or if a 5* hotel will have decent practitioners. Any suggestions please? ![]() |

We had many Auyrvedic massages and treatments during our three week trip in Kerala -- all at the various hotels that we stayed in (all five star) and each treatment was wonderfully relaxing, not too pricey, and worth every penny. They offer massages and facials just like at any European spa, as well as the longer Auyrvedic programs. Go for it!

Agreed!
The quality varies widely, some hotels/resorts being very serious about ayurveda, others offering it just as an expected addon. It is a medical treatment, though, not something to be done just for relaxation every day (could be tempting). One place, I was so utterly relaxed by the treatment that I went back the next day and asked to be re-energised: I was! That was Thapovan, near Kovalam.
