Thattekad in December - guides and accommodation?

Hi everyone,
We are two couples with kids travelling to Kerala by road in end December which includes 2 days in Thattekad Bird sanctuary. I have contacted the Forest department for a booking in their Inspection Bungalow - Hornbill. From what I have browsed it appears that it is in the sanctuary and a decent( and cheap!) place to stay. Has anyone stayed there in the recent past, any other useful inputs that I can get to help me decide to stay there would be welcome. Also, I need a guide, any suggestions, phone numbers would also be helpful. I am aware Eldhose is the most accomplished of them all, though not sure he would be available in that peak season for an amateur birder like me..

If you do a search, Im sure that our member Chitra also stayed there recently.

When we went last year, we stayed at Kothamangalam at Hotel Maria International. Our guide at Thattekad was a young man named Sudheesh, I think he is related to Eldhose. Sudheesh was a very good guide and we were more than satisfied. You can ask your hotel to arrange for the guide in advance however Thattekad is never that busy, so even if you do not make advance arrangements, you can engage a guide at site after you reach there.

Thanks Synonymous:-)...I spoke to the resident ornithologist of the Forest Department at Thattekad,Dr Sugadhan, he assured me that he will arrange for one of their trained guides to accompany us, looking forward to this trip!
